Trip to Bute with Dumbarton Scot SAC. Ten divers plus two wives along for the day met at Colintraive. Split gear and people between three vehicles and off on the short ferry trip to Rhubodach. Alan had been fishing for the start of the weekend and found out that the east side of the island would be murky due to the easterly winds. We drove to the NW part of the island where the West Kyle is beginning. The diving here is on the dead end road that goes for several miles north of Ettrick Bay.

Dive 1. Kildevanan. Parked by the shore, easy entry/exit on a shingle beach. Five pairs of divers went out. Four pairs only managed to 6m despite being split up and out for an hour. One pair manged 23m (after 35mins of finnning) and found scallops and an old practice mine. The topography everyone found was a bouldery flat seabed on shingle with lots of pretty weed but not much else. The ones who got depth said the seabed gently fell to shingle at 10m then silty sand at 20m. 6m for 50 mins. Viz 5m. Temp 10 degrees.

Barbecue and long lazy SI. Weather sunny if windy. Lovely views down to Inchmarnock Island and to the top of Arran.

Dive 2. Clate Point. Drove to the end of the road and parked at the last laybye near a bench. Again easy entry/exit on shingle beach. This time easily got to 20m. Again seabed was featureless shingle/small rocks after the kelp and weed to 10m. Occasional scallops. 20m for 63mins. Viz 5m. Temp 10 degrees.

Lovely drive through Argyllshire on the way home.

Divesite descriptions sent to Gord should anyone ever want to dive there.
