View Full Version : Mask & Optx stick on Magnifying lens
Just purchased a new mask Scuapro premier mask the big tear drop lens type. Previously i had a technisub look mask. To allow me to read my gauges i used stick on magnifying lens. With the new mask i am having a problem positioning the stick on lens, so that i don't restrict my normal field of view. I:E in the technisunb they where positioned at the bottom of the lens. With the new mask i have had to move the position up to the middle of the lens to allow my eyes to focus. I think it has to do with the horizontal distance between the magnifying lenses and the vertical distance from my eyes? Anyone had experience of this problem or know where i could purchase full prescription lens for the Scuapro premier mask.

I was thinking about getting the stick on lenses as I wear reading glasses. They seemed a bit pricey for 'a pig in a poke' so wondered if anyone else had tried them. Are they quite good?
had a word with my optician on the best way to position the stick in lenses.
put on the mask and have someone mark the bottom eye lid and center of eye on the glass with a marker pen. Stick the lenses in at this position and make small adjustments until you can read your gauges watch etc, The stick in lenses should then be in the optimum position to allow you to look ahead through the clear glass and slightly down to look through the stick in magnifying lenses.

hi there,
I'm also thinking about getting a set of these,my comp/gauges are read on the left,my prescription reads as L near +1.25,I don't wear glasses for reading, but now (old age!!) I can't focus underwater on the above,I read, on another forum, that you should go up one dioptre,ie in my case 2.25 to account for distortion due to mask glass and water, any comments/advise.

Hi DG, I have to wear glasses all the time and have come up with a very cheap (free) solution to corrective lenses on my masks.
I took the lenses from my "2nd set of glasses, free" from the opticians and using clear silicon mastic, stuck them on the outside of my mask with two vertical squirts of mastic on each lens. This way there's no trouble with mask misting up (coz they're on the outside) and they drain freely as you come out of the water.
You can play around with the positioning of the lenses til you're happy with where you want them and then simply stick away! I've used them this way for 4 years and, if your prescription changes, just pull them off and refix the new ones.
I'll try and post a piccy this w/e for you.
Have a look at the Masks (http://www.finstrokes.com/scuba_kit/mask.html) info.

If you are ever in the Grangemouth area, it might be worth popping into FYM and speaking to Alan. I bought a mask from him for approximately £30.00 IIRC and gave him my most recent prescription, He modified it for water use and ordered up the correct lenses from the manufacturer and fitted them. I think the lenses cost me another £20.00, but it was over 5 years ago, mind starting to go a bit. :o
He can only get lenses for some types of mask, so it might mean you need to buy another mask.
Probably worth at least a phone call! :D
