Here's one for you.

Say you organise a weekend trip, hardboat diving somewhere like the sound of Mull or the Farnes. Everyone pays a deposit several months in advance. How late is it acceptable for someone to drop out, with no specific reason, before the expedition date, without having to pay the full amount?

Your opinions please.

In fact, I'll make a quick poll.

they should not be allowed to have "no specific reason".
You must interogate them profusely until the truth rears it's ugly head.
& then, & only then should you take all the money for the trip & laugh whole heartedly along with the others while you head to jimmys bar with the cash.

Unless their arm gets chopped off or something i think that they should pay up or find a replacement person!

Its not fair on the other divers on the trip and its really crap for the organiser otherwise.

Boo hiss to all you trip drop outs!

I think they should require a death certificate if they want to drop out... and even then they should still have to pay..

I've got 10 people - half of whom I do not know - from all around the country and Belgium signed up for a week's liveaboard in the Maldives in September..... but I'm sure or (should be) hope none of them will bail. If they say.......they pay.

Alex,

I suggest you get the money up front for your Maldives trip ASAP ...

Doubtless you've a few more quid at stake than my paltry wee jaunt to the Farnes ...

Now there's a thought ... Farnes or Maldives ...

Helen and I are actually planning a trip to the Maldives around Christmas time. When are you going? Maybe you can give us some feedback after your trip.

Cheers

I have organised trips before and have been left to make up the difference out of my own pocket. However, I now stipulate that cancelations must be a minimum of 1 month before the trip and a valid reason given, or they pay full whack, unless they can fill their space. Handy hint, I always add extra to the cost of the trip, because it is easier to hand money back than to get extra money from divers.;)

unless they are hospitalised or seriously ill or unexpected work commitmants crop up then they should pay in full. why should organiser or other members pay.

Gord, Going end of September for one week on MV Sea Spirit booked with Maldives Scuba Tours. :D. Though I have organised the trip, everyone has paid thier £250 deposit and I believe will be directly responsible to the company for the remainder of their bill. Alex

Alex

if you pass the deposit money to the travel agent the deal is then with the travel agent and no longer your problem.
