Hi gang,
My sister lives on a farm here next to the sea and since i've been diving me and my bro in law have always talking about diving here.I couldn't find much info about dive sites on the net so i called the local bsac club in newton stewart, they were superb told me the best shore dive in the area was a mile from my sister's farm and they could give us air fills if needed :D.

We arrived at the site on saturday morning at high tide, easy parking next to the water (and pub ;) ) and you can enter via the harbour slipway.First impressions were fab the water was calm the sun was shining and vis in the shallows was brill at least 8M,after 6 meters you come across thick kelp which was full of large dogfish, mermaids purse's and lobsters.

After the kelp there wasn't a lot to see it was a flat sandy bottom with not much depth, our max depth was 19M.Vis was also reduced to about 4M due to plankton but it was strange being at 19M and not needing a torch as it was still daylight, been diving loch long too much :o.

Our second dive yesterday was to try and swim round the headland, the bsac guy's said it was a good dive but be wary off the current and they weren't kidding, the current was fierce so we headed back and farted around the kelp looking at the doggies.

Had another 2 dives there today but vis was even worse at 3-4 M,i'll definatly dive it again but hope the currents and vis are better, took some pics of entry/exit points so i'll try!! and make a site guide of it.

cheers for reading

Loudy,

It's always great to explore. Glad you enjoyed your dives. Being on a sandy seabed really does improve the ambient light. A first Galloway divesite for the records sounds good as well.

If you get bored diving you can visit the locations from The Wickerman, most still look like they did in the film.

Cheers,
