Interesting thread this especially if you are considering buying a dive computer. I understood that the Vyper and Gekko were extremely similar but the Gekko couldn't download, however it appears you can by some mere trickery that my Swedish mate Dan would be proud of, although he can probably play around with it and turn it into air integrated with two yoghurt pots and some sticky backed plastic

I have it in my head that the Gekko doesn't have an audio alarm ... ? you know, for ascending too rapidly etc.

It does have an audible alarm, however it has a phosphorescent display instead of the vyper having an Electroluminescent display. Not sure if I would prefer the
phosphorescent as on night dives, you need to keep switching the light on, whereas if it was charged by a good lamp, it should last a fair length.

I have one and have used it on loads of night dives and day dives with viz that resembles night dives.

It does hold its 'charge' for a fair while. I have no complaints with it.

This used to be the same with pretty much most computers. If you bought a Buhlmann computer then the chances are it would have the Aladin Pro board in it with a different display regardless of whose badge was on the outside, even if it says it only does no-deco or limited deco stops. Uwatec charged a big price difference between the Aladin Sport and the Pro yet they were exactly the same computer with the deco function switched off.

Cheers,

Stuart

Yep, I hate the light on the vyper compared to charging up the guages with a lamp! - probably seemed like a good idea at the time if you only have one lamp and it goes

I find the light on Vyper very difficult to use and normally just shine my torch at an oblique angle to the display face in low light conditions. This seems to do the trick.
