View Full Version : Furnace Quarry
Info from members of our club who tried to dive on sunday.
13 divers met in Inveraray. And decided to dive in Furnace Quarry. A quick dash to furnace and there we had to think about a new venue. They would not open the gate to let us drive nearer the water and have put in that many obstacles. It resembled an assault course.

Was driving past Powmill Quarry the other day en route to a job and noticed someone has blocked all the entrances up to it.

this is a real shame about Furnace. Is there any particular reason for it? Health and safety? pished fishermen?
This is such a great dive site for summer when yuo get lots of club members out and about wanting to dive. The car parking is dead important ...

Can you still get in (or at least get closer) via the track from the other end i.e. the road past Kenmore, etc.?
Cheers,
Stuart

me and tomy2tums dived it today it was some walk from the road with our kit,we both had 2 15L cylinders :(,the dives were fab if a bit chilly.
we got stopped by the owner who asked us where we'd heard about it and it was ok for us to dive today but not to come back!
they closed the gates to Furnace at Christmas.
you can still access the site if your prepared to do the walk,
did it myself a few times with twin 10's & a 7 litre stage bottle.
yup, ok its hard, but if you want to do it then you have to work for it.
the Kenmore track is as close as you will get.
i know someone who knows the owner/manager.
he suggests if you call first (the day before) they may open the gates for you.
the gates were put there to stop the abundance of accumulating rubbish on the site.
i.e. Glasgow wine bottles & dead fish.

That is a shame. Last year I wrote offering our club to do a 'good will' clean up around the car park and in the water around the pier. I never received a reply!!:( :(
lol DG, was thinking about the same thing myself.
