View Full Version : Torch recommendations
So far I've only done fairly shallow and daylight dives (deepest was 22m in Sound of Mull but very clear). I carry a small torch "just in case", but was wondering what the Conger Alley Massive would recommend as a main torch were I to start doing springtime evening dives (twilight dives, if you like) or going down 18m in the Clyde on a murky day.
A hint as to the price of recommended kit along with a tech spec would be a help too!
Virtual beer and pizza for all advice and suggestions, (virtual pizza is great, no calories!) and thanks in advance,
Al.

Hi Bud,
Both me and my buddy Brian have had this same dilemma we searched the web and put a thread on conger alley and what was recommended was the DARKBUSTER It cost about £250 its is made buy BRIGHTSTAR TECHNOLOGY i got mine a couple of weeks ago from AQUATRON £240 they done a price match from a web sight called kitfondle.co.uk all i have to say is this torch is the daddy its a nice size the burn time will out live your dive time and its like a light saber in poor vis especially is your dive buddy kicks up all the silt.
Hope this helps.
Russell.

:)
I use the Beaver Plasma LED Torch.
4 dives per charge, although the forth dive it is a little bit dim, but small too!
UK light canon HID wins it for me.3 hour burn time and an excellent light.only downside is bulb replacement is expensive but ive had mine for 3 years and not replaced bulb yet.

I've been tempted by one of these:

I've got a Halcyon 18W HID but it's too big for shore diving and the Dive Rite torch looks nice and compact. With the exchange rate at the moment it isn't too bad. Probably work out about the same as a Light Cannon.
Cheers,
Stuart
Thanks for the responses (and Gord, thanks for the link, I hadn't looked that far back!).
I've gone with the Beaver Plasma from Divetorch.co.uk, should have it tomorrow or Friday at the latest!
New toys, I love them!

Get yourself some bungy and a clip, to clip it to your BCD so you cant lose it.

(Digs out cord and makes mental note to get some more clips)
