What kind of gloves do you use in winter?

I have always just stuck with 3mm neoprene throughout the year, because I like to be able to use my fingers (to remove my mask and pick my nose, for example).

In winter I've always been tempted by the apparent warmth of dry gloves, but put off by the clumsiness which i imagine they must impart to the user ...

Do you use dry gloves? Would you recommend them?

I Have a pair of dry hydrogen gloves had them for 4yrs great in the water when compressed. Very cumbersome on land need two people to help to put on.. They also tend to be a bit more expensive then normal gloves:( better to wear normal gloves when diving with trainees so i can get a good grip of them if needed:mad:

at the moment im using a pair of 3mm fingerless gloves.
they origionally had fingers, but thats another worn out story.
i have a pair of dry fleecy lined gloves, they have wrist seals on them for sealing.
they take 2 months to dry out when flooded.
if my hands get cold when diving, i just put them in my pockets :)

I tend to use 5mm neoprene gloves, but I have 6mm 3 finger gloves for when it's really cold.

I'm off to Russia ice diving in February, I'm taking my 3 finger mitts and also some of them surgicle gloves for a base layer.

I use 5mm Posiedon gloves which are good except I've worn out the fingers... seems they don't like too much rust ;)
Still using them but just treated myself to a 5mm pair of oceanics which seem ok so far (they were the right price in the dive shop :D )

I tried out the orange dry gloves and found them warmer than 5mm neoprene gloves, but the downside is the squeeze (which could have been alleviated using the drinking straw method) and the lack of dexterity. I now use Waterproof 7mm 3-finger semi-dry mitts which again lack a bit in the dexterity department and are awkward to put on. However, they are warm as toast and taking them off after even a 75min dive you notice that the trapped water is pretty warm.

7mm semi-dry mits ... might give these a try.

Shark Boy, do you sell these in your boutique?

No dry gloves for me, a pair of 5mm cheap gloves from puffin which served the purpose though cumbersome and the grip surface wore off pretty quick just gliding down the shot line.
Bought a pair of 3mm gloves from Splashsports with a kevlar woven grip but to my knowledge haven't dived with them yet, bought them as I had tried someone elses pair and found dexterity greatly improved at little difference in temperature.

we have 7mm mits

did'nt know you could get 7mm semi-dry mits???

I have 3mm mits which I use all year round (I tend to use a normal glove on my right hand when teaching for hand signals) but I can tie knots and do most other things with mits
dry gloves seem to work best with membrane or rubber suits

I'm starting to get excited about it. I'm thinking about going a day early to spend more time in Moscow.

Hah! Lets just say I didn't mean cheap in the financial sense.

Pair of home made drygloves, some woz rings for ease of fitting (www.kitfondle.co.uk) and the thumb loops from my Xerotherm Arctics to equalise the pressure. Lovely warm hands all day. Wet gloves just don't compare.
