This has been posted on RBW, YD and The Inspo List. Teledyne are no longer going to supply Cells for CCR use.

How long can you keep an unopened cell for a still use it? I know that APD recommend not using a cell for any longer than 18 months, but that's once it's opened and installed.

APD are looking for an alternative but it may be sometime away.

I don't think it'll make much difference, they aren't selling cells certified for rebreather use but they will still sell analyser cells. I spoke to a Teledyne rep a few years ago, the R22D is pretty much exactly the same as the R22BUD that they make (made) for AP.

It's been coming for a while, we bought a load of industrial cells from the UK distributor about 6 weeks ago. I asked them to chuck a few rebreather cells in, the guy asked me what they were for and (stupidly) I told him. At which point he gave me the "we can no longer sell diving sensors" line. I figured it was just a new policy at PAS, I didn't realise it was coming from Teledyne :(

Hopefully they are going to continue with the turning a blind eye policy with analyser cells, if they pull them we're screwed.

As far as I know, a well known internet diver got a massive pay out from Teledyne. I guess it is stemming from that, this is what happens with the wonderful world of Yank litigation, everyone ends up paying.

Not posted by myself, but taken from the RBW Forum

I spoke with Patrick at Oxycheq... The ONLY cell that teledyne will still be making that fits ANY ccr is the r17, but the r17D version is being scrapped so they WILL NOT have a hydrophobic membrane.. The r17o is being continued because it is used in o2 analyzers including 2 manufactured by teledyne.

So, how long will a cell be okay for if you don't open the packet? APD will need to come up with something or just stop selling their product.

Isn't it something like 4yrs? I'm sure it's printed on the Teledyne label on the pack, I've just opened a batch from Vandagraph, I'll see if the wrappers are still in the bin.

I'm pretty sure someone will come up with something. There are loads of other cell manufacturers, someone (AP?) needs to chuck a load of money at them to get their acts together with quality control. It might be the stimulus that AII needs to sort out their reliability issues. It might even stimulate something better than 50yr old technology that was never particularly great in the first place. IIRC someone was developing a solid state sensor. Oh well, at least I've got 18mths!

Subject: RE: [Inspiration] Teledyne Cells for CCR Diving

> Anyone is involved or knows anything about this?

Yes, we knew this was happening.
I had a hand in the wording of the notice.
We have known about this for sometime, so have a replacement cell scheduled to continue when the existing stocks are used.
All cells carry the usual warranty.
We have had a great working relationship with Teledyne and together have developed nice reliable products.

We wish them all the best in the future.

You can get them from Tecme in Germany. If you buy 8 from the US then you'll get hit with import charges, Dive Gear Express never understate the value, I've asked them in the past and got a big "no". I used to buy my cells from Oxycheq but customs are hitting everything they can these days, I guess the government needs all they can get. Plus Royal Mail/Parcelfarce take about £10 just to handle the customs paperwork. They're also a pain with their shipping costs, they wanted 20 quid to post a hose adapter that weighed about 20g.

If you get them from Martin then it's within the EU so no tax. He's a bit more expensive but his shipping prices are reasonable if you only want 1-3.

I did hear something about this a while back, I got an e-mail from another rebreather Instructor. AP will honour us with cells, If anyone is interested I can supply a price for supply for the cells, I have a trade account.

In regards to shelf life of cells, I personally would never use a cell which has been lying on the shelf for more than 2 years.

I put a whole new set in just before the announcement so fingers crossed I've got 18mths grace

I don't know if it's a good thing but my Hammerhead is setup for a different cell to the Inspos and Vandagraph still has them in stock. I'm still debating whether or not to invest in a spare set.

I think a Narkedat90 mini cell checker might be on the cards soon.

Have you spoken to AII? You can order direct from them, you don't need to go through a retailer.

I spoke to them the other day and the cells for mine are currently on a two week lead due to their orders going through the roof.

If it's AMCS-UK who are are the agent for AII in the UK your talking about, then yes I have spoken to them. Curretly have a chap there called Laurence who is on the case but so far the price he quoted me was £94.79 a cell or £88.72 if I buy 10+. I've emailed him back with the prices that Tecme and Dive Gear Express (before they removed them from sale) are charging and he's going to see what he can do. I'm sure APD will soon have a replacement cell available but I want a backup just incase.

No, I'm talking about AII themselves. You can buy direct from the factory. Prices are reasonable, the ones for mine were comparable to Oxycheq's Teledyne's equivalent.

Factory is in the USA though so back to the problem of import duty! Who did you contact? Email or phone?

Depends how many you buy, what is it? £120 or something before you get import duty? There might even be an appropriate TARIC code you can use. You'll have VAT but you'd have that anyway from an EU supplier and you won't be charged US sales tax.

I emailed them, can't remember the name of the woman, Amy something, but she was very helpful.

This is getting worse. I emailed AII with the model number of the sensor I need and the details of the unit I want to use it in and got this reply back.

Dear Mr. David Robertson,

Thank you for your interest in Analytical Industries line of diving
instrumentation.

We no longer offer the referenced sensor model, and recommend contacting the
original vendor/ manufacturer for a replacement sensor.

PSR-11-39-APD which was their cell for the Evo and Inspo Vision.

Is that the co-ax fitting?

I wonder if that means they are going to be AP's replacement supplier? If AP were going to be flogging them under their own name and the only unit it's used in is the Evo/Vision then it might make sense to ask for an exclusive deal so you have to buy from AP. They did that with Teledyne so that only they (or resellers they supplied) could sell the R22BUD.

Yes it is the co-ax type. Emailed them again to make sure and they emailed back to say they no longer make a cell that can be used in an Inspo or Evo Vision, so don't know, perhaps they have done a deal with APD, lets hope so, or I'll be buying a JJ.

Had a PM from someone at AII on RBW and they have now decided to no longer support APD CCR Equipment and they have not tied up a deal with APD. So who have APD got to make the replacement cell? Suppose we will just have to wait until they run out of stock of the Teledyne Cells and launch the replacement that they have stated they have.

Just got this email today, hopefully there is now a regular supply and not just he dregs of the Teledyne supply!

Dear Mr. .......,

I am pleased to say that we can now fulfil your order for 3 coaxial oxygen cells. Please can you let me know the delivery address and your payment details and I will arrange for the order to be processed?

Thank you in advance and I look forward to hearing from you

New cells from AP are on the way at last. They are working through the outstanding orders which may take some time! See below...

Dear All,

I am very pleased to let you all know that we now have the first production run of our new cell.

It has been a long process to reach this stage which I know has been an extremely frustrating time for everyone affected. We have worked around the clock to achieve a cell that we are happy meets our high standards. During the last 12 months we have tested every cell available and we found them to suffer from either lack of accuracy or reliability or both. We therefore took the decision to develop our own cell with which we are now very pleased. CE Approval has been granted and we are now ready to move forward.

Initially we will have small but frequent batches and we will commence working through our back order list in strict order. We will contact each person on the list when we are able to supply their order, that may be in the form of a new unit, a serviced lid or spare cells. We will work through this as quickly as possible and production will be ramped up accordingly to meet the high level of demand. I would ask you all to bear with us a little longer and wait until you are contacted rather than phone the factory to check on your position on the list as our resources will be devoted to managing the supply of cells as efficiently as possible.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging time, I know it has been very frustrating for those of you needing new cells but I would like to thank you again for your continued support.

kind regards
