Im Insured to 110 teaching:eek: a wee bit on the deep side for a course
thought there was going to be reference to an event or depth achievement... Or is it just a thread genuinely for divers and their depths??
ian - what's the deepest u've ever done??
Deepest I've done in Loch Fyne is 46m at Dog Fish Reef.

I have a target to look at in Loch Fyne later this year, when I get depth fit. I am interested to see if we have any diver's who have pushed it a bit. I have moved Malin Head trip to next year, so I am going to focus on building up for this one.
Deepest to date in our chilly waters is 90 mtrs:)

Cool - that makes sense. 90m is definitely deeper than I care to go... In fact after certain events it takes a bit to get me past 65m would need to be a hell of a rusty pile to tempt me...

Yeah it takes a while and a lot of faith in the kit, I started the Gym down here in Spain and that is my first step to getting back to deep stuff:)then I will take it from there
Someone needs to finish a course then he'd be up for some deep dives, as my current mix ticket is only for 48m and 15 mins max deco, fine for CCR, not so good on OC. When you back? I have a twinset full of 20/30 in the garage.

C.mon we have had 5 dives on your course, last time you done solo and the rest of the group done the dive
If you go about 300m straight out north-west of Creggans then you hit about 80m but it's a long boring swim with nothing to see. It was still going down, 45deg sandy slope. I was quite surprised when I actually saw the chart, there are a couple of 130m soundings in the middle of the top end, I'd just assumed the bottom end would be the deeper part where the sub manoeuvre zone is but that only hits the 70's. Loch Ness is an easier site to get depth off the shore, I've only ever done it OC though which was painful.
The Navy used to use Loch Fyne in the 50's for heliox experiments, my neighbour was on HMS Reclaim when they were doing it, IIRC they were getting around the 150m mark. He showed me his photos from the time, fascinating stuff, George Wookey and all that lot. He had a right chuckle when he saw me loading my kit into my car :D

I have to admit, my favourite zone is 55-65m. Deep enough that the wrecks haven't been picked clean but not deep enough that you get hammered with massive deco or the bail out gets unmanageable. When you look at what you'd need going past that then it's either a big leap of faith or you need to be good at kidding yourself.
I did the Buit a few years ago and it's probably one of the biggest wastes of time I've ever done. A trophy dive.

Hold on, the someone is me, I know I mucked up my last dive by ending up solo if anything, my comment was lambasting myself and not you. Anyway, learnt my lesson and buddy skills are shite hot know!
I'm planning on finding out how deep Gortein Pt goes in the near future. Not planning on going much beyond 50 though . . .

It doesn't go much beyond 50 there, I think you might get 60 if you tried, it levelled out around 55-57m.
I've followed the wall down to 51 and not hit the end, must have been at high tide. . .
I got to the high 50's and it seemed to be levelling out. Though it was in my air diving days so there could have been the lost city of Atlantis there and I wouldn't have noticed:) Doesn't look it gets much past 60 on the chart.

Max has been 57.7m at Furnace Quarry.
I'm still in my air diving days, so won't be pushing it much past 50.

I guy I used to work with actually worked on the Reclaim too, I read the account of the early dives. A bit hairy.
I have a data base I aquired from the Off Shore Industry when my company was carrying out survey work off Ireland, I have a target for lower loch Fyne and would like to buid up for it and hit it in September. The area I am looking at is arund the 120 mark.
I have dived Loch Lomond at Firkin Point and this is great for getting deep, wall straight down to around 80 mark but dark, very dark and peaty.
Cheers

I remember him telling me about having to haul divers out of the silt because they were so heavy.
Yeah, there's the Grampus and a few unknowns round there. IIRC one of them is supposed to be quite a large freighter.
I've never dived Firkin Point but Loch Ness sounds very similar. Blood red water, weird place. I crapped myself when I hit a tree trunk on the way down. Best place I've ever been for deep shore diving sites has to be Norway, the fjords are superb dives, shear walls straight down, crystal clear water, loads of life. And you can just flop in from any layby. Shame we don't have many places like that here.

Yes Loch Lomond did have a real spooky element. Would be good to have more deep dive off shore ;)
Ever tried Easdale Quarry near Oban. Some nice depths to be had there.
Loudy can tell you all about it up there :D:D:D

That's one place I was really happy to be on a rebreather... passing through that black layer of 200yrs of shite at about 35m :D

Yeah i did 60M in easdale quarry for my trimix course, not one i would rush back to do again,500mm viz at 60M.

Sounds.............. really nice. Perhaps one to pass on then

Nice wall dive to about 30-35m then lights out as you hit the layer of black. The houses used to dump their sewage straight into the quarry so I presume this is an accumulation of suspended turd silt :D

It goes right down to 75 in the corner near the back of the restaurant, yes it is a wee bit smelly.
Mike from Puffin done it a number of years back with Rob Palmer and they managed 75....I have only ever managed 62 in there and that was mostly by touch:eek:
I heard there's a great deep wall dive near Eilean donian castle on the way to sky:confused:anybody got any ideas

aye in loch duich - easily managed 60m a few times... reckon 80m on the wall would be possible, but having not done that deep there i couldnt swear it.

Yep, it's more of a steep slope than a wall though. I'm sure Dave Gordon said he had about 120m on it, I got about 75-80m when I was checking out training sites and it still looked to be going down. Lovely vis, hardly needed a torch (which was handy as my Niterider decided to flood).
We went in from one of the laybys before you get to the castle, bit of a clamber over boulders protecting the shore and straight in. Fairly steep, sandy slope that went down in steps. Lots of life as well.
I've often fancied diving around the castle, there must be allsorts round there.
