A few years ago I was on a rib dive off Crinan and we had some excellent scalloping on the shelving drop off (the dredgers couldn't get in that close). I want to go back there, but can't be rsed towing the rib all the way from Largs. Does anyone know a decent shore dive west of Lochgilphead, say near Crinan or tayvallich?

Thanks for any tips.

I've never done it. Sounds great. How about after you and Mazzer get back?

Well, i know nithing about the dive sites you are asking about.....

However, next Sunday (not the one coming up, so the 30th April) the plan is a couple of RIB dives. 1st one to the Wallachia, 2nd one a Scallop dive for those inclined!

... i wouldn't touch a Clyde scallop! They're basically filter-feeding at the mouth of a sewer, as far as i'm concerned. In fact, how about a new poll :D "Would you eat Clyde Scallops"? yes / no?

not wishing to be a pedant, but surely the fact it is a filter feeder, means it doesn't matter where it lives!! cos it filters out what it doesn't want.!!!

on the other issue... i tried to find out about the sound of Jura, but didn't really come up with anything :(
i thought it might have been cool for the Solstice BBQ...

I got the following recommendations from a guy who runs a small fish farm near Loch Melfort:

south west from the carpark at the end of the b8002, Craignish peninsula
somewhere along the north side of Loch Melfort where the road comes down to the shore.

He also suggested this:

Minard Bay
Park at NR 972943
Enter at 974947
Cliffs run towards Minard
Parking is on left of Forestry Commission forest road.
Whole area beyond here looks a bit private, but have walked through area beside the Castle's old stable block (now house) & reached water that way. Alternative is a longer walk in from carpark before traffic lights in Minard.

Stonefield
Used to be able to drive down to NR867717, walk across to Barmore Island, enter water & diver around the north end/east side of the island.

I would like to try all of these sites at some point. Has anyone done them?

btw, I think filter feeders collect heavy metals and other pollutants ... Clyde scallops were banned for a chunk of months not so long ago, can anyone remember why?

Aye it was propaganda set by the official West Coast of Scotland fisharies
department enforced by Nicola Sturgeon SNP.

And have ye seen the price of those farmed steroid induced
scallops/mussles/salmon?

Un-less your diet consits of purely organic goods, You should question yourself of what you eat...
Me ,I eat anything that tastes good and is probably bad for me.
