This system was developed at dundee uni by an ex eastwood diver, Chris Roland. I met him on my last trip to scapa on the Karen, and he showed me the first scans of these wrecks on his laptop in the pub.

In fact he is on this site sometimes as Dundee

Pity it wasn't sunny
But it would take a hurricane to spoil a trip to scapa......

Hi all,

Some of my 3D images were published in January 2007 DIVER mag. So grab it and compare my stuff with that produced the same month by SULA. (smug smile ensues). We are hoping to launch the images commercially for use by divers later this year, we will have a stall at LIDS in March, plus we are surveying the main Sound of Mull wrecks in the next couple of months.

Most of the 3D models will be released in a product called "WreckSight" which we will demo at LIDS then make preview versions available for evaluation from our website. You will be able to navigate around the shipwreck model in 3D and plan how you want to dive it. Or just enjoy remembering your dive as you show the rest of the family where you saw the "Giant Conger" under the hull.

Hope all you Eastwood kids are happy and healthy (er maybe not healthy , as I seem to remember the Friday night pub sessions).

All the best

Chris

Sounds good, particularly being able to navigate the 3D image.
Well done.

sounds good Dundee,
firstly, what is LIDS?
i assume this is a sula pic.

how much better would you say 'WreckSight' is that this.
i dont have diver mag, so cant compare for now.
do you have any online samples?
if anyone has diver mag, can they scan a pic?

my opinion, the sula pic looks good for what it is
& i can appreciate the time, effort & science involved in the production.
but ...& here comes the but, i dont find it any more useful than a library stock pic of a ship, at least, not this pic anyway as i cant see all that much detail.

will using 'Wrecksight' allow you to zoom in & out, pan around etc.
& the killer question everyone wants to know, how easy is it to copy...?
sorry i jest, how much is it expected to cost & when will it be released?

keep us posted. sounds intriguing.

LIDS. I would guess London International Dive Show. They are great images Chris. I saw them and your lovely photo in Diver Mag. Cheers
