Arrived on site at 09:00 with the hope of driving all the way up the track to the waters edge. Unfortunately, the access track off the main A977 has been churned up so much by traffic that access can now only be had by 4 x 4. Parked up at the side of the road and prepared for the climb. Assembled the BCD, cylinder and weights, put it on my back and climbed the hill (this certainly wakes you up). Dumped the gear beside the water and back down to get the suit on. Suited up , gathered the rest of my kit and back up the hill. Got back up to the top to find I only had one glove so, back down to find the glove about 5 meters from the car. Back up the hill. (third time, second time wearing a dry suit). Eventually we got kited up and entered the water via a text book giant stride. Quick check on the surface to ensure everything was OK and descended. Kept the wall on our right and slowly made our way round the site. Visibility was a good 5 - 6 meters (or it was when we arrived, a lot worse by the time we left). Water temp a balmy 11 degrees on the surface and 10 degrees at a maximum depth of 11.9 meters. A lot warmer than I was expecting.
I can officially confirm there are fish in the water. Someone has tied a plastic Nemo to the tow bar of the caravan :D and there is another toy fish tried to one of the manoeuvring handles.
After about 30 minutes we were in the shallows so called it quits, climbed out and trudged down the hill.
A good dive and not as cold as I expected. A good way to spend a Sunday morning.
Down to FYM to get the cylinder topped up in preparation for Conger Alley tonight. Hopefully not as strenuous to get into the water.
Thanks,
/Colin. :D
