View Full Version : Why use VBulletin and what does it cost
I see you are using VBulletin and a skin fromVBSkinworks.
How easy is it to get a forum up and running with these apps and how much does it all cost?
I have some experience of building simple hobby websites and was looking to do something for my amateur football club. A forum might be a better option than a website, unless the costs are prohibitive.
Just looking for a bit of insight.
Cheers!
I've probably spent a few hundred over the past three years on software etc. Maybe 300.
Workwise, it's quite demanding initially, but once everything's up and running it's quite robust.
PM me if you want any tips etc. :)
There are free ones out there as well. But you get what you pay for.
If I was starting out again i'd seriously consider Joomla for example. In fact, if it's for a football club, Joomla might be ideal: it's completely free, and it has some great features to with "news" and general content management where a web-master is in charge for the most part of what gets published. It also has enough forum features to cover all that too without being completely forum-oriented like vbulletin. Might be worth you looking into it.
My Scout District uses Joomla for their new website. Seems to do a good job

I used Proboards for Scottish Divers, which was free and plenty of support
I'll take a peek at Joomla, as I think my uncle's model flying club uses that and I'm looking for something I can push onto someone else when I'm working away from home (something that happens quite a lot).
