View Full Version : Scottish Dive Show 2009!

Hi,
I haven’t posted for a while but I think you all realise why now. I’ve been very busy organising the Scottish Dive Show 2009 here at Aquatron on 30th May + 31sy May 10:00am – 6:00pm on both days! We are proud to announce that we will have suppliers Scubapro, Uwatec, Northern Diver, Fourth Element and Beuchat taking stands at the show. If you have not seen the advert on 3rd page of this month’s Scottish Diver it’s now on Aquatron’s homepage. www.aquatron.co.uk
The buzz is in the air and the chat has already begun about what new products and deals will be available. Scotland has been crying out for the Scottish Dive Show since it ended in 2003 at the SECC in Glasgow and due to pressure from customers we are trying to make this an annual event here at Aquatron. We are eager to show the UK suppliers that the Scottish divers are worth their attention.
I have been working hard with suppliers to negotiate the best deals possible and have been amazed by the response. Aquatron have deals on regulator sets, BCD’s, computers, PADI courses, drysuit’s, etc already agreed. More promotions are in the pipeline and will be finalised nearer the time. Even if the unthinkable happens and you can’t find a bargain, there will still be free air fills to be had!
There is no ticket cost and ample free parking locally so what have you got to lose? Come down, have a look around and hopefully have a good time and see some familiar faces.
Hope to see you all there.
Kind Regards
Chris
‘Dive Happy With Aquatron’
P.S. If you are looking for any specific items then reply to this post and I’ll let you know what we have in store!
Nice one, Chris!

There is no funny story competition this year cause I think it was rigged last year! Your diving story (short novel) took the biscuit :D
I'd welcome any ideas though? Keep it clean!

Now if you ran it over the thursday evening as well, now that would be useful !!
Worth a go :)
Cheers,

well done Aquatron!
Will there be a photo competition this year??
Good one Chris, I wont be able to make it, yet again this year, International Rugby 7's at Murrayfield and the tickets are in my grubby mitts :D
I'll get my pipe and quilted gown out of the attic ... only one week to create a masterpiece!
What's the prize gonna be? :D

well done Aquatron!
Will there be a photo competition this year??
I'm still getting therapy for the last time I had to view the entrants to the photo competition! I said, 'Please supply diving photos' and it got a bit messy. I should have specified Scuba diving. Some of those images are burned in my head. I will never be able to look at some of customers in the eye again :D :D :D! LOL

Just confirmed we are going to have an excieting new product launched for the first time in the UK at the Scottish Dive Show 2009!
Still to confirm some of the details so don't want to confirm exactly what it is but I'll keep you all posted. We are also at the mercy of the courier to deliver it in time!! But all going well it looks like a fantastic new bit of kit.

Surely not the new APOC rebreather from Alex Deas?
A new "yellow peril" pee valve where your pee is recycled through a scrubber and emerges through a straw as "Magners on ice" an hour or so later?

A new SMB that doubles as an inflatable sex toy for the "solo diver"?
We will have a working suunto HELO2 computer (one of the only dive centres in the UK)
for people to play with
dude, its still just a suunto
I like Suuntos. I don't have one though ...
yet! Recently ordered one of their running / training watches. Hasn't been delivered yet.
Great watches Crap Diving computers though

How?
Crap Diving computers though
http://www.tlocuk.co.uk/forums/images/smiles/bs.gif unlike that fantastic cochrane of yours that packed in on the U74 http://www.tlocuk.co.uk/forums/images/smiles/la.gif
Crap bottom times. any computer can pack in, mine wont be the first nor the last im sur theres plenty of suuntos thats done the same
Great watches Crap Diving computers though
Really? Is that why they sell so many? Because they are crap! They are conservative, but then again better being conservative than getting the user bent. Never had any problems when I had my Stinger, and Lindsay's Gekko is still going strong after 5 years on the same battery. So if they are crap, why do people still buy them, in fact how is the company still going and bringing out new products, we all know how fickel divers are, if a product/company is really crap, they don't last long in this marketplace. Suunto however, have been pretty much at the forefront of recreational diving computer advancement since they released their 1st model in 1987, since then they have sold over 1 Million Dive Computers (November 2005 they made their 1 Millionth unit). So for a company that's now in it's 75th year, been making and selling dive computers for 22 years and has over 1 million dive computers out there being used (They are the only dive computer manufacturer to date to have 1 million units made), how can you say there product is crap? Or is there 1 million unhappy Suunto Owners out their, who just can't be bothered complaining?

Suunto's customer support is second to none as well, why haven't you got your cochrane fixed/replaced yet?:D

Suunto's customer support is really good, only time I sent my Stinger back was for a battery change, they had it back to me with a new battery and cleaned and pressure tested within 24 hours.
There still Crap though :p

Seems definitive enough to me. Let's move on please :crying:

My Cockring must have been the most unreliable computer I've ever owned, I'd say it failed on 1 in 4 dives. Resetting itself, not switching gas, switching gas when it shouldn't, dodgy battery connections... Nice computers, shame they don't work :D

Ive over 1000 dives with my cochrans and its only ever packed in once

That's how they were known back in the day :D As you can guess they were well respected!

Fair enough, you must've had a Monday computer and I got a Friday afternoon version. A load of us bought Commanders at the same time (1996'ish) and all had the same problems, I still remember the UWI rep at the dive show looking like he was having a nervous breakdown because so many people were hassling him. Batteries were a big problem, can't remember which it was but either Energisers or Duracells just wouldn't work in it; I don't think I was ever confident it was on the right gas as it would show some very odd numbers for deco time; it would do resets during a dive, especially at gas switches, I remember that was a particularly common "feature"; setting the gas mix was a right pain as well, had to be done by bridging a contact with a coin... only the UK coin alloys didn't work as well as the US ones it was designed round (that was the excuse of the UWI guy, he said only a 20p piece should be used ).
Maybe their newer computers are better but the old Commanders really weren't great which was a shame as they were nice computers when they worked. But they're meant as a deco/gas switching computer so it wasn't worth the risk. If you've got one that works then great, I just never got on with them and I know enough people that it happened to as well to be very careful using one on a committing dive.

Drambeg

You have to love CA!
This must be the only place in the world that, inside one post, you can see discussion on Dive Show's, driving lessons, marketing cigar smoking, sex toys, cider preferences, diving manufacturer history, mum + dad taxi services, product launches and cockrings!
I'm scared to invite any suppliers now! LOL :D

Hey mate,
We don't have any Luxfer cylinders in stock for the show. However, I could get them in if you are interested. We can do the 7L Luxfer O2 Clean for £135 and the 11L Luxfer O2 Clean for £175. This is only valid until the end of the show on Sunday though.
Hope that helps.

Just wanted to say thanks to all the staff, suppliers and customers for making the Scottish Dive Show 2009 a massive success.
Those of you that queued for an hour to get in on Saturday will testify to that
Because of the amazing weather over the weekend we understand that some people went away for the day (could be years before we get good weather again)
We will be holding some show prices this week but only what we have in stock (anything that has to be ordered will still be retail/price match price)
Thanks again to all invloved.
