View Full Version : Gortian Point / Tripple Reef ?

As Ding said, common dive sites get new/alternative names. For instance, Gortien Point is also known as Tripple reef to some divers I know.
Looking at the dive site description for Gortian Point, this is not the site I know as Triple Reef.
The lay by at the site I know has a low wall on the water side, "3R" spray painted on the road, although it might be a bit faded now as I've not dived this site for some time, and enough space to three cars at a push. Underwater, it's not one big cliff face, but a series of smaller ones. Unfortunately, I'm unable to tell you if the site is before or after Gortian Point, but it is defiantly on this road.
Does anybody know of this site?
Thanks,
/Colin. :D
Hi Colin, I know the site well. I'm glad that someone had painted 3reef on the road, as this was the site that got confused with Gortien Pt. However, the site is also known by some as 'Fish Hotel'
At gortein point the telephone pole has a No 24 on it as is on the dive description and an exact milage. I will do a dive description of tripple reef and put the telephone pole No and milage in the description and then there will be no doubt....

Have mapped Gortien as part of my DM but never dived Triple Reef, would be handy for the site guide, could then take a run up and check it out with a dive or 2.

Give me a shout when you are available to dive and we'll head up and have a bimble. Site is a bit exposed, so it's probably best done on a nice calm day. Can sometimes be a bit of a nightmare getting in and out the water.

Cracking info, Dingster & the photies are not bad either!
Looking forward to seeing the entire guide: is there more parking space there than at Gorton or Anchor?
What's with the variation on spelling the word "triple" in this thread? Is the amended spelling of "tripple" a coded reference to tipples of tequila enjoyed there or something (apres dive of course! ;) )
Spelling is not my strong point, I have sent a divesite description to gordon, its basic but I will update it later

Ding,
Checkout Stewart Russell's link to a CUSAC drawing of Triple Reef by 'Big Jim' both on this site and his own homepage. This was in reply to an early post by Gord on the intricate UW topography of Triple Reef.
