Diving drama sees two hospitalised
Published Date: 21 February 2009
TWO divers were taken to the ERI after they are thought to have surfaced too fast in the Firth of Forth.
The pair, believed to be a man and a woman, had been diving on a shipwreck between Dunbar and North Berwick today but showed signs of discomfort on returning to their boat, the Silver Sky.
A coastguard spokesman said: "There was a doctor on board, he thought they weren't showing signs of decompression as such but were giving some cause for concern."
The North Berwick inshore life boat was launched and drew near the Silver Sky, putting the doctor on board in touch with a diving expert at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary's hyperbaric chamber, which is used to help divers who suffer from 'the bends' after surfacing too quickly.
The two doctors agreed that the casualties did not need hyperbaric treatment, and Silver Sky was escorted into Dunbar where an ambulance transferred the two to the ERI.
Due to strong winds, the Silver Sky and the inland life boat were then escorted back to North Berwick by the all weather lifeboat, which was launched from its base at Torness.
Noticed it in The sunday Post. Hope they are ok
