Well after all the publicity......... we turned up at 01.00. Loads of lights, marshalls, a path down to the water, well lit rope to 6m deco station and then the well lit rope continued along the rocky breakwater for a couple of hundred meters to a big blue drum with 'Do not go further' at 12m. The Tearoom site was great for the event as the divesite is sheltered and shallow, and there was food and drink/warmth/toilets in the Tearoom.

Alan and I did the 02.30 to 03.00 and 04.00 to 04.30 slots on the Sunday morning. Weather had cleared up so bright moonlight and no rain. The baton changeover with the pair before and after us went like clockwork thanks to a well signposted deco station. Plenty to see on the boulders out to the 25 gallon blue drum at 12m. Poor cod, leopard gobies, several scorpionfish, lots of squatties, prawns, a big lobster, big edible crabs, velvet swiming and harbour crabs, urchins and starfish. Lots of chitons on the rocks. We didn't see the conger. Viz was fine and temp 13 degrees.

A big thank you to the Tearoom for staying open and to Atlantic Divers for a superbly organised event.

Same Charity Drive again next year, James?

In case you wonder, 'Drive' is not a misspelling by me but was what was on the special log book stamp

Hear Hear! my hubby drove me up, under sufferance (he doesn't dive) on spec. I was so keen to do a dive and luckily I got a spot as Ian reid couldn't make it. I had a good dive with Grant Harrison from Atlantic divers. We saw the big conger just at the deco stop. I thought I might be pushing my luck to expect hubby to hang about for a 'surface interval' so I reluctantly just did the one dive. I am glad I was able to take part. It was great venture and the organisation was excellent. Well done atlantic divers and everyone who was a part of the event. Will you post the final total collected?:D :D

I got there on Saturday about 2pm to discover that all the dive slots had been taken. We moved the gazeebo to a more sheltered site, what a laugh that was, it was like a big kite ready to take us up in the air with it. However, due to the wild weather and feeling like the proverbial spare, I decided to come home at 8pm and come back early bells on the Sunday and maybe get a dive in. That did not happen as I got sidetracked into doing something else. I asked Rod if he could give me the total sum collected, as I have collected around £150 from the staff at work who would like to know how much we made.

Great photos, Ding.

It was a very well organised event: was a pleasure to play a small part in it.

I presume that the 24 hour attempt was successful then?

Yep it was actuatly more than 24hrs because james and his buddy took another 15 - 20 mins to get the deco station and lines out after the diving. The Cafe was great it stayed open and served us with everything we needed, including a heater to dryout wet clothing. And as usual we followed the recomended diving rules (after u wet the outside u wet the inside) so we went to the Village Inn. I met some RB divers and was reminded I'm going to Scapa again on the 11th of Nov for a week with John Thorton on the Karen. The last trip on the karen was great....oh I'm waffeling...PS a big thums up to James New for organising a brilliant 24hrs of diving to raise cash for kids, it was done like a military exersize, except it was fun as well. I was expecting 200mm viz but was totally surprised to get 3-4m and saw shrimp, wrasse, big edible crab and a very frisky conger eel. Ian reid who was suposed to be helping James had to work. well he calls it work, on a boat with the "Wreck detectives" you have all probably seen the program on the box... Looks like there will be a lot of cash raised. Well dobe Atlantic divers.

dive was great fun but exhausting
couldnt believe that everyone turned up on time except of course the club chairman who was living it up in sunny grimsby
thanks to stirling uni for their volunteers who dived through the night even though the weather was atrocious
does anyone want to volunteer for the next one apart from james who has already got his name down?
debs
Yeah, it was great! Those of us from Stirling Uni had a great time, thanks for the mention! Was also good to see alex mac from this forum & his buddy Alan doing some night diving there too. Sorry that I didn't get a chance to chat to you more, alex: the hot chocolate & carrot cake were far too moreish! ;)

Well done to everyone at Atlantic Divers once again. I'm sure that all of us from Stirling Uni branch would be delighted to help out with any future event.

I agree with Charlie, top night and really enjoyed the surreal experience. We'd happily take part in another charity dive event. Let me get the money to you for this one first.

I've still to get the rest of the money I raised from the gang at my work then pass it on to Rod. All the slots were taken, so I am going to put my name down earlier next time. A well turned out event despite the weather. Does anybody know how much has been raised so far?

I don't suppose they will get a grand total till all the money is in. I posted mine off the other day. It should be impressive I think. Check the Atlantic Divers website. i keep looking. It was a great day even though I only did one dive. I would do it again and hopefully get to camp out next time. Well done everyone:D
