a cheap way of getting rid of hot-spots from your torch is to use a video diffuser.
a cheap way of making one is by putting a white dura/surgical glove over the torch head.;)

I used to have a cut out from an old milk carton which worked quite well, I try not to use the light too much and just go for natural lighting. Its just a very simple old compact digital I use, nothing fancy!
