View Full Version : Upside down Conger
I was diving at Conger Alley today and saw plenty of life and a few congers but one was lying in its hole looking out and it was upside down, we watched it for a minute or two and it was just lying there gaping as they do.
I was wondering if this was a behaviour of the conger and if it is why they do it. It looked a bit strange. No one I was with had seen this before.

i have seen conger poke their heads out exposing the white under-mouth (is that a word?) on quite a few occasions.
i have once seen a conger appear to dig in the silt, in an upside down position.
could it be that they sometimes live on the roof of the cave?
no idea why they do this.. perhaps one for Divetramp..!

hi Jam,
Looked a bit weird I have to admit, got pretty close and it didnt seem to react very much either.
Was it dead? My goldfish went upside down when it died.....

Is that the first time you have been to Scapa. Are you going to write a blog for us, with some pics :D
There was a big conger at Stallion Rock yesterday upside down in its cave
I saw the same upside down conger yesterday at conger alley. I thought it was dead and nearly poked it to find out when the bugger moved.
