Dive Granny,
still looking for info on diving Malta? I started diving in Malta when I was studying there for 5 months early 2005. I did my OW and AOW training there but didn't do any dives on top of the course ones (i.e. 5AOW and however many for OW).

Not long back from Malta - there are some piccys from both above and below water on my web page at http://www.cyclops-online.co.uk/ . Either go through the gallery link on the left, or they should be in the quick-links on the front page.
Enjoy your trip!

Water temp was 24 degrees, surface temp about 30, that was about 2 weeks ago. No problems in a 5mm wettie, except on one dive where below the thermocline at 32m the water temp was 18degrees - now that feels VERY cold when you hit it all of a sudden!

I was across in Gozo with a few of the guys from my club in April.
We used Calypso Divers in Marsalforn. http://www.calypsodivers.com
A really good outfit, they will set you up for the week with apartment accomodation and a jeep round the corner from the dive shop.

Aquarton have a good book with great divesite descriptions have a we peek!
Is it this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Malta-Comino-Globetrotter-Dive-Guide/dp/1843309424/sr=1-1/qid=1161608979/ref=sr_1_1/203-7282707-8657566?ie=UTF8&s=books
We found this book had most of the sites we dived and the descriptions were pretty good.
The only sites not in there were the two new ferries they sank this summer off Gozo. Warning on those ones - they are a lot deeper than the press reports claim. The magazines say they're on the bottom at 30m - one is more like 39m, the other 40m+ - we did it as a second dive with a depth limit of 30m and didn't even get down to the top deck - just circled above it for a bit!
We dived with www.divewise.com.mt and they were fab!

Oh yeah, I went diving with www.divemalta.com Dive Shack. They were fantastic and took my friends and I through OW and AOW. Worth checking them out. Their dive centre is in Sliema and easily accessible by Malta's fantastic bus service. I just wish I had some photos of the diving side of things, a friend bought one of those cheap disposible u/w cameras but it didn't last, unfortunately we only found this out when she went to develop the film.

hi gran
check out the malta photos on our website
www.atlantic-divers.co.uk.
our trip in april we were told to bring our dry suits , from memory sea temp was 18/19.
i have the guide book shore diving in malta , will lend it out if u come and get it(blantye) or see u at a site , when u off ?, any spaces?
we used subway scuba and had the distinction of having a dive rained off  , the guides were afraid of not geeting back to shop as no road drainage and the runoff into the sea had turned the water into something the colour of milky tea !

Saw the photos. They are great. I can't wait. Still like a big kid going abroad as I've only been 3 times!! We go from 3rd - 10th july next year so hopefully it will be warm and not need dry suits:D Urchin is organising it so check with her. I met Colin from Kilmarnock SAC and he fancies going. said his club might arrange a trip, so you could contact him.If we all go at the same time we could 'take over' Malta:D :D thanks for the offer of the book, but it would be easier to borrow Urchins. I live in Glasgow.
