Divers
Dive for Debris with Aquatron Dive Centre on International Cleanup Day - Sept 21st 2008. We need divers and volunteers to help remove underwater and shoreline debris from the A-frames to 29 steps - and join us in an end of Summer BBQ, social celebration of diving and our certifications and give something back to our marine environment at the same time.
Divers are the guardians of our underwater environments - this event is the largest single day volunteer event on behalf of our underwater environment. Literally thousands of volunteers participate across the globe.
Aquatron is organizing this local cleanup in partnership with the Project AWARE Foundation, and all profits from the day will be donated to the Project AWARE foundation.
Divers (with entry level qualifications and above) and shoreline volunteers of all ages can participate. Bring your friends and family to help make clean waters a reality. Special Kids activities are planned for the children so bring them along too.
The event will be our chance to give something back. Costs to take part are drastically reduced from usual rates...(not for profit but all proceeds will to to project AWARE)
Non-divers and those bringing all their own kit (including tanks and weights) £5
Divers (1 dive) BBQ / tank + weights hire £15
Diver - full kit hire + BBQ £35
Sign up (and payment) for those wishing to dive must be completed by Friday 19th Sept 2008. Sign up now by replying to this post, email aware@aquatron.co.uk, and or come into the shop and see us.
Competitions are planned for most unusual piece of rubbish collected, largest weight of rubbish collected, most cigarette butts collected, and best drawing of the event by an under 18.
BBQ will be a chance for everyone to socialise, come back and meet the people from your courses in 2007/8, chat to local marine societies and see how you can continue your diving. Burgers & rolls provided - bring drinks and salads and anything else you like.
Please feel free to forward this information to friends and family who may be ready to jump in their drysuits, pull on their gloves and make a dive for debris! or just want to help our on shore, especially other local dive clubs you might belong to.
Finally on Saturday 20th Sept 2008, we will run two project AWARE courses (£65 for beach clean up participants including certification and materials, 80 for non-participants) - a PADI specialty open to all divers and non-divers (you don't have to have any qualifications) to learn about our aquatic environment and of course the local marine life.
Thanks for your time.
