Yeah i watched and it was good but 100M on rebreathers in shorts and shirt with no bail out

Yes, just a bit dangerous, when the guys guages (and electronics which control o2) flooded I wondered why he didn't bail out. No bailout, 100m - suicidal if you ask me.

Chuuk Lagoon, i'll have to work on a dive trip there - looks awesome!

Is that you arranging a trip there then, I need to wait for the kids to leave home first though

Does look an amazing place and hopefully the programme will get even better. Well worth a watch if you missed it.

…they are using CIS Lunars Vs) which are triple redundant.
The electronics were down but he was reading the passive mV of the O2 cells directly and was therefore driving the PPO2 manually.

No bailout!!
Those butt and back mounted tanks are there for a reason…... they have switching blocks on the left hand chest area to access those tanks.

The divers on the Mk15.Xs definitely had bailout…. the classic Inspiration diver I'm not sure about but almost certainly they are using "team" bailout procedures which are quite normal for this type of diving. (minimum 3 in a team but the more the merrier). Lugging full bailout on 90m + dives is not easy. (and rarely done).

Fair doo's,i don't now much about breathers but those butt and back mounted tanks are they breathed through the loop as bail out or OC?

"with the knob turned another 90 degrees to pointing down, the RB is being supplied from off board gas."

this just answered my question, pretty cool

Still looked a bit seat of the pants though

Here's some interesting reading about rebreather failures in which incidentally the guy's who's rebreather flooded in the program is involved.

I am currently looking at buying an inspiration and had just convinced indoors but after she saw that last night she's gonna take a bit more convincing.

It was a good program, if a little too dramatic.

Not happy about them yanking fish out though and piercing their swim bladders. What happened to 'take only photos, leave only bubbles' (or even no bubbles in YBOD's cases.)

Not watched it yet but its on my Sky+ sounds good.

I didn't actually sit and watch it, but did overhear many typical tv statements along the lines of "This dive, risking the lives of all the team"

Didn't think that seemed too nice either, but better than grabbing them in a net and waiting til they blow up inside, like they used to.

What do they do with specimens anyway - keep in a "nice" aquarium? kill them and freeze dry and mount on card? freeze dry and mount on card after they've died a few minutes after surfacing with them?

A reassuring read, I'm sure we'll all agree.

A new life assurance policy should do the trick I'd have thought, she'll be delighted then.

watched it, thought it was quite good, had some concern about the RB divers dropping in for a check dive to a pre stated depth, then carrying on down deeper.
But have set the sky thing y up to record the series.

Just watched it on BBC iPlayer. Looks like it will be a good series.

Agree that they need to takes samples of new fish to study them properly. And spot on Peter, they would pop if they didn't pierce the swim bladders

Bit bonkers going in with shorts and a shirt though. Maybe I'm just jealous :)

You all liked that? God it was tedious! Watched episode 2 in BBC iPlayer. Dull as dishwater - well maybe not - but it's not a stay in programme! :( It was a struggle to watch it to the end (where's the yawn icon when you need it)

I have got to say how underwhelmed I was watching a group of scientists exclaim their joy in finding newly discovered species that look remarkably similar to pretty much everything else. Slightly more impressive than the bloke on Thames Wrecks eulogising over 3 miscellaneous bits of iron, but not much. It might be good science, but it wasn't good tv!

I did like the Mandarin Fish, but that was only about 1 minute.

I like the old style David Attenborough programmes where the wildlife was the star, above even Sir David, and not the blokes who went to look for them.

Watching Blue Planet is like buying a new car or new furniture for the house that you can simply enjoy. Watching Pacific Abyss is like having someone bore you to death telling you how they chose the oil brand or what they used to stuff the couch.

I think I might watch my DVD of Blue Planet next Sunday. :D

Here here!

You hit the nail on the head there. There seems to be a lot of diving related television that is more of an ego trip for the presenter(s) than it is about the diving. I can't remember the last "diving" programme that did heavily labour on the "danger" aspect

Need to get Sir Atenborough into a full face mask and keep Americans off the BBC :D

I somewhat agree, but still think it is reasonably watchable TV. It also brings diving to the masses (if there are any masses watching)
The underwater footage is pretty good and you get to see Kate Humble in bikinis and wetsuits (now where is that drool smiley?) :D

The programmes do tend to over dramatise ie " the divers will be in grave danger of a bend if they don't surface soon".
" They are 1000 feet below the surface and , someone is having problems with his equipment". Very dramatic:rolleyes:
