View Full Version : Yo! Trainees!
What's the most difficult skill to learn as a trainee?
A lot of people say the rescue, or the shared ascent. Personally, I never like taking my mask off. Especially at this time of year!!
Are you a trainee? What is / has been the biggest challenge in your training?
Maybe we could have a poll about this some time, ... after the keek yoursel poll finishes ...

Going on the drills I have had to do from Ocean Diver through to Dive Leader I would say controled bouyant lifts (CBL). The reason being that the only time you ever do them is when you are training for that current qualification. I have never had to do it in a real rescue and hopefully never have to.....
Fair enough you practise them when you are going to be training for OD, SD or whatever, but its never a drill you would do on normal dives. You wouldnt go, on your Red Sea holiday, "I know, lets do a 15m CBL from the bow of the Carnatic..." Maybe it is something people should practise from time to time?
Mask clearing is one I seemed to be ok with. When I did it for my sports diver qualification drill it was December and we were in Loch Long. The water was 7C and we were at 10m. When I took my mask off it felt like I had been hit in the face by a shovel! WHAM!! Cold water!
It comes to us all at some point....:D

I find the hardest skill is staying close enough to someone, so that you can see them, without them getting in the way when you are trying to photgraph something!!!!
'mone the solo diving!!! haha... i mean eh... as the chairman i could never condone that type of behaviour.. stop it.
