Does anybody know what exactly contaminated the water at Conger Alley???

I was diving there last Sunday, with one of the clubs squeebs, and there was some mighty strange behaviour going on... i thought to myself... this all seems a bit... wait for it... fishy!!!

No, seriously.. some of the fish were really docile. There were pianted gobbies that arte normally really excitable, that you could pick up!!! one of the big bad boy congers was lying in its hole upside down, and was really sluggish when it moved...

I just wondered if they were somehow conected???

Anyone know?

On the plus side there was a shoal of Saithe... about 5 congers... from one of the big boys, right down to a wee young one. We saw the big lobster, loads of Corkwing wrasse, ballan wrasse, Goldsinny wrasse, black/leopard/painted gobbies. But sadly i didn't see a single nudi, not even on the big rock that normally has loads on it :(

It was vandalism, at the Furnace Inn I believe, when heating oil was let loose into the loch.

There was hardly any oil, no big disaster...

I noticed on Wednesday last week the warning signs from Argyll & Bute council was still there. I'm sure I read somewhere on here they were being removed?

Anybody any info?

/Colin.

They were still there today, dated 2 sept 06.

Also plenty of fish swimming about including a couple of big conger in their holes. Good dive today.

i passed by conger today on the way to the 'tea-room' & confirm that the signs are still there. (23 september, not 2nd september, i assume a miss type:) )
i think the warning signs will be there until they disintegrate.
i doubt Argyll & Bute council will spend the money to remove them.
there will be trace amounts of oil in the water for some time.
probably best to contact A&B council or SEPA for details.

Conger is fine now. Four of us had a good dive today. Bubblemaker and I were in for 63 mins. Lots of other divers there also. Great dive. saw the smallest nudibranch I have ever seen:D

Think it was more shallow than that. I don't know how Al spotted it as it was so small!! About 1cm long, if that.
