View Full Version : Software upgrade
I'm going to upgrade some of the software on the site over the next few evenings. I'll have to shut the site for a few mins here or there, and we might need to revert to the default vb blue skin for a little while until i get the skin upgraded to match the new software.
Basically, the water might get a wee bit choppy but you'll probably not notice anything. Just talk amongst yourselves for a while ;)
But what you will notice are some very cool new features on the other side, which will probably be next week ... :)
No worries Gordon.
And on behalf of me , but I'm sure everyone else agrees , well done on setting up such a great website.
Much appreciated - a beer owed I'm sure :O)

I second that. I am lost without my daily Conger fix!

A fingers crossed smiley? :D
Excellent work as usual gordon, dont know where you find the time!!
gonna do some stuff today. may need to close for a few mins
there's gonna be work going on all weekend and some stuff won't be working properly. No need to tell me about it as i'll already know. Thanks for your patience.
I've updated the site to Vbulletin 3.7 which has some new features, including:
* Thread tagging (you can add keywords after your post if you want to help the system to index it in a particular way).
* Reciprocal friendships between users (if you're a facebook type person )
* Public visitor messaging on profile pages with 'conversation' feature
* User picture galleries with user comment facility (you can create your own albums)
* User-created social groups with invite only and moderated membership options (DIR?)
* Extended member profile pages
* Lightbox viewer for attached images (this is quite cool. Look at this one for example from SharkBoy: http://www.congeralley.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1799&styleid=2 ... see how the lightbox pops up?)
* Social bookmarking integration (you can help promote the site by Digging it, etc.)
Not all of these features are working well under the Deep n Dark theme, but if you switch style (bottom left hand corner) to vb blue, then you should find all the changes to your user profile options etc. Take some time to explore.
In the next few weeks I'll get Deep n Dark fully upgraded to deal with 3.7.
Cheers :)

This is a new feature, btw ;)
Where's my sigpic - not allowed or all changed? I suppose I could go check........

yeah that's a problem with the deep n dark skin i think. It'll be fixed soon. The search should be working on the vb blue skin though.
Hi Gord - I posted earlier that my signature photo had gone after the upgrades. So I decided to change my signature to some text. Unfortunately although I could edit the rest of my details I had no option to change the signature field. Can you help?
Woohoo, the new tobermory skin is Funky!
Cant work out the difference between Deep n Dark and Night Dive though, but I love the tobermory one, thanks Gordon!!

Cheers Chris,
These are very much work in progress though and I don't recommend using them just yet. I'll let you know when all the functions are working properly. If you want to use them now then go ahead, but I just don't want people PM'ing me about stuff not working yet.

Peter - try now. All your sig permissions should be ok (so long as you're not experimenting with the new skins) ;)

My pictures back and I've now added text to that, so I guess that's it. Thanks

The new default skin for Conger Alley is "Night Dive". If you want to keep using Deep n Dark, then you'll need to select it, but please note that I won't be supporting that skin or updating it in future.
Night Dive is very similar to Deep n Dark anyway, but with a couple of improvements:
- It expands to fill your screen rather than having margins of wasted space.
- We've added menu buttons for Blogs and Dive Sites. Given the amount of work everyone - especially Alex - has put into the dive site guides, I thought we should have a menu button to promote them across the site.
You can also now select the new "Tobermory" skin which is working well apart from a slight menu glitch on the home page (the Search and Quicklinks buttons don't work on the landing page, but I'll get this sorted soon).
:)
Excellent work Gordon. I notice on the Tobermory skin there is no Home page link when away from the homepage, is this a glitch you know about?

click on the eel ;)
(overall though, I'm still not happy with the Tobermory skin. It's a bit rough and has some way to go)
