TRIBUTES FOR DIVER FEARED LOST AT SEA

DEATH Diver
20 Mar 2008 - 17:27
By Lucy Christie, Scottish Press Association

Tributes were paid today to a diver feared lost at sea after he went
missing on a trip to a sunken wreck.

A massive search was launched for father-of-four Neil Rodgers, from
Rotherham, who was on an excursion with his diving club to Scotland's
west coast.

Mr Rodgers, 40, disappeared while diving with the group on the wreck of
the Rondo ship in the Sound of Mull on Sunday.

Mr Rodgers, an alarm engineer from Thorpe Hesley, had travelled north
with members of Doncaster Sub Aqua Club.

Chairwoman Linda Lawcock said: "All members of Doncaster SAC are shocked
by this incident and their thoughts are with the family and friends of
Neil at this difficult time.

"Neil failed to surface safely from the dive and after extensive air,
sea and shoreline searches were conducted throughout Sunday and Monday,
the diver is presumed lost.

"Neil was a long-standing and enthusiastic member of the diving club and
was well liked and will be sadly missed by all members of the club."

Mr Rodgers was married and the father of three sons aged 13, 12 and ten
and an eight-year-old daughter.

He had five years diving experience.

In a statement released by South Yorkshire Police, the family said: "We
are traumatised and shocked by the news of Neil's disappearance and ask
to be left alone at this difficult time."

Mr Rodgers was reported overdue at 1.30pm on Sunday.

Strathclyde Police, Greenock Coastguard and local shipping crews were
involved in the search.
