Hi,

I've not posted for ages, but I finally got round to editing a dive on K4 (K Class submarine - Battle of May Isle) which I did a few years back.

The lighting isn't the best as it was my old torch, but it gives an idea of what's down there if your interested organising a trip with MarineQuest :)

What's most impressive is the size of the submarine - longer than a modern Nuclear hunter killer.

Cheers

Fantastic!!
Our DO's been trying to convince me to do this for years. But at 60 metres it's just a little out of my range on Open Circuit air. (Even before my bend.)

Well put together video.

Enjoyed that.

I wont be getting to dive that for a while, maybe next year or the year after.

I really enjoyed that video. It made me go and look at the history of the K-Boats again, not the most illustrious chapter in the Royal Navy's history it would seem. As you pointed out, bigger than a nuclear hunter killer but powered by a coal fire and a hot water cylinder. I remember reading about this when I was at primary school and even then thought the idea of taking a steam powerplant underwater seemed prone to going nipples skywards.
Looked like a great dive although there is always something intrinsically melancholic about all that naval muscle coated in soft coral.
As DavieG stated- maybe this is one for me in a couple of years if I ever get that trimix ticket...

The conning tower lies a couple of metres to starboard lying on the sea bed. The large discs that were used to plug the funnels lie against the hull again on the starboard side.
Vis has always been very good at this site.
The other sub (intact) lies within scootering range.
I think this is K17 and the intact sub is K4 but whatever they are (IMHO) the best dives in Scotland.
I've never had the weather like those Lady Angela boys but we did have have Rissos dolphin with us on the surface and swam about us on the trapeze on the deco stop.

Hi Guys,
I first dived these two wrecks around 1994 & had some of the most interesting dives ive ever done.
We had studied the history of the subs & read The Battle of May book beforehand.
I was lucky enough to do some of the filming with Gordon Wadsworth on one of our dives. I placed the camera in the access hole where the conning tower was & did a 360. You could clearly see the gauges, communication tubes, oxygen cylinders, the steering gear half burried in silt & lots of other interesting sights. Gordon now runs 'The Jane R' dive boat.
It was nice to watch this video and remind myself of what the wreck looked like.
My log books says the deck was at about 49M, we only had 10 mins on the wrecks each dive as we were only on normal air.
Ive dived in a few places now around the world but my best memories are of my dives around the Scottish coast.
We also dived the 'Avovdale Park' wreck not too far away. Has anyone dived this & got video. Gordon did but ive not seen it since the mid 90's.
Happy Diving
