View Full Version : Conger Alley Dive
Hope you guys (& dolls?) had a good night dive at Conger Alley tonight. Not to make anyone jealous, but I'm off to the Red Sea this weekend for a week's liveaboard, tiresome I know, but someone has to do it!
Look forward to seeing any phots you may have picked up tonight.
if I can figure how to download my pathetic efforts I'll post some Red Sea pics on my return!
Safe Diving Folks!:)

Thanks NiciJ,
Well, got there at 7.45pm to find Charlie and two buddies just coming out of the water. Ding and Mermaid were kitting up so joined them for a 50min dive to 18m 'tho most spent about 10 to 12m. Temp 13 to 14 degrees. As always, loads to see tho viz was crap. My top spots were a lovely Lion's Mane jellyfish anchored by tentacles at 3m on going in, Yarrell's Blenny on the CA reef and a Dragonet on the silty shingle at 10m. Only one small conger but several big Ballan Wrasse. Lots of saithe/pollack. Passed 4 divers going in as we were exiting (I think Gord & Airmonster & Charlie & buddy). Next two hours in the Village. Highlander beer definitely better than Tobermory.
Good to put some faces to names. Gord looks even older than in his Avatar - or maybe that's just the worry of being newly wed.
I'm looking forward to our next dive.

Oh - Tadpole fish (which I did not see) - looks like a conger from front - is this it? See link

Hi guys
Some of u guys r really keen night diveing " two dives". Mermaid and I were getting kitted up when charlie and his buddies were finishing their first dive. Alex joined mermaid and I and did a 50min dive in the shallows. Saw one conger, dragonet, dab, tadpolefish, Ballin rass, pollack, leopard spotted gobi, corkwing rass, rock cook, goldsinny, dogfish. That was the fish. We also saw a few sea cucumbers (psolus phantapus) and sea loch anemone, burrowing anemone, beadlet anemone, breadcrumb sponge, sea orange, dead mens fingers, sea squirts, peacock worms, sand mason, lions mane jelly, Velvet swimming crab, big edible crab, shore crab, hermit crab and shrimp on our safety stop. Sometimes u dont realise how many things u see, until u write them down. Oh and if u leave the camera in the car. Our apree dive in the Village Inn was good putting faces to names.
Hope to see u guys again

Glad you all enjoyed the dive and subsequent refreshements!
I'm off in 2 hours to Lochaline for 4 days diving with the club (Kirkcaldy BSAC). Really can't wait - this will only be my second dive trip!
NiciJ - have a great trip to the Red Sea, very envious!
Cheers

Thanks, Craig.
I'm sure you'll have a brilliant trip to Lochaline. I did my first Scottish dives there and we were lucky enough to come across basking sharks and dolphins!
Enjoy!
Hope you have fantastic trips, NiciJ & craigdiver. Looking forward to reports & photos when you return. :)

By the time I arrived at about 7.50pm. Ding, Mermaid and Alex were just disappearing off the road down to the waters edge. Met up with Charlie (charlie mcg), Steve? (apologies if wrong) :o (cheeky_diver) and Gord. Had a wee natter as I got kited up. Waited on Charlie and Steve? finishing their SI. Got buddied up with Gord and all four of us went in. Excellent dive. Vis was poor in some places where it had been stirred up and not too bad in others. Plenty of life as the site lived up to it's name. Saw plenty of Congers and the Tadpole fish. Apparently quite unusual. As Alex has mentioned, a few big Ballan Wrasse and we also came across the Lion's Mane Jellyfish, which we managed to avoid. Was plenty of other stuff which Ding has already mentioned (not that I would know one from the other). By the time we came out Ding, Mermaid and Alex had already left for the pub, so never actually managed to meet them. Maybe next time! I was under curfew and had to be back home for 11.30pm so missed out on the 'banter' in the pub.
A good pleasant dive despite the rain and good to meet some of the names on here. On checking my log book this morning, I noticed that my last dive at Conger Alley was.....................wait for it!....................31/08/2005! Spooky or what?
I could think of worse ways of spending a wet Thursday night. Thanks to everyone and 'must do it again sometime'
Nicij and craigdiver enjoy your trips. looking forward to a good trip report.!

Was good to meet you, Colin.
Oh, and cheeky_diver's real name is Graham, but never mind as we don't often call him that anyway ;)

Apologies to Graham. I'm terrible with names. Forever getting the kids mixed up!
Nice to meet you both. Good luck with your studies in Plymouth Graham!

Yep that's definitely it! Amazing creatures.
Thanks Airmonster for a great dive. It was also nice to meet you guys. :) :)
The dive was excellent for me because of the amount of life: loads of saithe, wrasse, congers, 2 big tadpole fish, and we also saw the lion's mane jelly fish anchored by its testicles.
Brilliant dive!
Cheers!
anchored by its testicles
... ouch!!
Was good to meet you, Gord. Sorry that I initally didn't recognise you from your avatar.
