View Full Version : Uploading to You Tube
We have just got back from 2 weeks in Barbados and I tried out the video mode on my camera for the 1st time. :D I am having problems uploading it to You Tube as the file is 70MB (only for 3 minutes of video). This seems too large,- is there anyway to reduce the quality of the video to make the file smaller? any other suggestions?
depends what format it is and what software you have!! have you edited it, played with it or added too much fancy graphics and text?
Nero or even Windows Moviemaker will help you reduce the size!
It is straight off the camera at the moment - I am just downloading moviemaker to see if I can resize it. It is in AVI format, 24 fps and 320x240 frame size ( I presume that is pixels). Does this sound right?

Wondered where you had been;) How was Barbados?
Barbados was excellent - some good wrecks to dive on. Was just great to escape from the dismal weather for a while:). Will post some of my video efforts when I get it uploaded.

Yeah that sounds about right, but once you have into moviemaker you should be able to reduce the size accordingly...Looking forward to it, hope you two and a nice time
I have used DivX to make good quality compressed video , but its a bit fiddly to use.
Windows movie maker is more intuitive but doesn't have very many options as I recall.
On the better quality setting you will get about 7MB per minute , so it should take it down to about 20Mb instead of 70.
The lower quality setting gives a smaller file size again , but the quality is very poor !
If you are struggling , email the file to me and I will process it for you if you like.
What's the upload limit for U-tube ?
JohnnyB.
Thanks for all the info. I reduced the size to 6MB and found that the quality was very bad as you suggested JonnyB :( Will try to get it around 20MB and see what it is like.

Some people just like to rub your nose in it!!:D

Here it is, if it works
There's something you don't see everry day - a wreck you can see further than the bit of metal you are holding. Looks nice.
All worked no probs.
good video, needs some music!!
good video, needs some music!!
aye, good vid but needs some rock music...:D;)
Will have a bash at it tomorrow - not going out to the car for CD's in the rain.

thats why torrents were invented ;)
p.s.
if you wish to upload biger/longer vids on youtube, become a director.
Having done no diving abroad, how much own kit did you take out with you, what kit did you hire on arrival?
Going to be in Antigua next Jan, mainly for dinghy sailing but could be tempted into a spot of diving. Likewise for possible Med (Turkey) visit in September.
All advice greatly appreciated,
Al.
dive kit is the first thing in my suitcase generaly... then the clothes..:D
fins, mask, snorkle is top of the list as its PPE.
then a wetsuit, regs and BCD/wing and a strap weightbelt or integrated pouches.
hired regs can come with former user problems which are unreported by the user for fear of being charged, so be aware!
set of scales is handy.

If I'm going on a holiday to dive I take it all (well maybe not the weights or cylinders!) and see how many clothes there's room left for.
If I am going on holiday with the possibility of the odd dive the kit goes in this order, depedning on space - well weight really - available.
Certification card! (although only actually needed it once!)
Computer
Mask, Fins and Snorkel (and boots and gloves) and maybe little torch - especially if snorkelling is going to be an activity itself
Wetsuit, if appropriate, hood, etc
BCD, Regs and main torch - by this point it must've been a dive holiday after all! :D
Likewise - we take all our own kit except weights and tanks as rental gear always seems to be a bit dodgy or doesn't fit right. I ususally take a separate dive gear bag to take all the unbreakable stuff which leaves more room in the suitcase for shoes and toiletries.
I'm sure when you see the colour of the water in Antigua diving will become a priority over sailing!!
