Hiya Scotty.
Theres a guy on fleabay sells a lot of new MARES stuff mostly regs , I saw an Abyss go for £165 last week +£16 postage.
He is based in Italy , think his trading name is Tuttomare.
I have CRUX gloves by Waterproof - I think they are great. Very comfy and warm despite being only 3mm. never has cold hands , even diving at Christmas , 8 degrees.
Cheers , JohnnyB.
The LIDL / ALDI torches are guff BTW if anyone else is thinking of buying one, I had 3 , all of them leaked / rusted.
Consigned to the bin now.

Had two LIDL torches myself which leaked just enough to corrode the contacts and make the torch tempremental. I'm in the process of reappropriating them with a little DIY... If JohnnyB hasn't chucked his I'd be happy to save them from landfill.
If you want a crap led backup buy one from northern diver had two both flooded on the first dive total crap

I use a £10 lidl mask with valve I have had for about three years. (Fingers crossed) it is a good wee mask:)
Hi Scuba-Doh , I'll have a look , although one at least was corroded to bits inside , it is DEFO in the bin !
Just not very lucky with torches.
Had a nice NiteRider torch which I was very careful not to lose , had a carabiner to the handle to keep it nice and tight onto my gear when not in use and a lanyard from the handle to my stab to keep it safe when using.
Halfway through diving seagull rock , goes to get my torch and yes , you've guessed it.
The handle was still very safely attached to me.
Moral of the story - never buy a torch with a detachable body.
Worst of it was that I had literally , just that dive , splashed out on an expensive set of rechargeable D cells for it.
B****R !!
If anyone ever finds it............. :O)

I don't know about that. There are a few Light Cannon devotees on here... ;)
Yes , perhaps more accurately , never buy a torch with a detachable body if you are ME.
:O)
Off to Coatbridge now BTW , if you don't hear from me again , you know what has happened..............

That is a bummer! That reminds me, I aught to get a metal caribiner for my camera, dodgy little plastic one at present. :o

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you need to remove a screw before you can separate the torch from the handle? I know the screw could work loose and fall out without you noticing it, but surely a bit more secure than just relying on a plastic clip of some sort.
I appreciate what your saying though, I would hate to have forked out over £200 for a torch only to find I'm left with the handle.
/Colin. :D
Hi Colin.
There is a screw but it is only a pressure fit. It doesn't actually go into a hole in the main body. It allows you to position the handle anywhere along the slot to suit your wants.
Cheers JohnnyB

Cameras !
Don't get me started on cameras !
Sitting up top at St Abbs waiting for the boat to spot us ( we had come up a long way from where we should have - on purpose of course ) , I notice something drifting softly by on the current.
Oh Look! , thinks I.
Some doughnut has gone and lost their camera.
Looks just like mine , maybe I could have it as a spare.
Wait a minute.........
What the ?
How the..........???
Still to this day can't figure out how it managed to detach itself as it is on one of those extending spring bungee things , so is never detached from my stab , even when I'm using it.
Ah! the mysteries of the deep...............
Think I might make my tag line at the bottom :
JohnnB , I'm the man , if I can't lose it NO-ONE can.
Cheers.
The problem I find with caribiners is that after a bit of use in the sea they can tend to stick in the open position. Anything that isn't negatively buoyant could float and unhook itself quite easily.
Piston clips/boltsnaps are the way forward.... Stainless steel of course

Make sure you go for the bigger ones as the small ones are a pain in the mamms to unclip with gloves on.
Like Johnny said, my camera and both torches are on an extending spring bungee thing and never disconnected while under water. We also swap torches in particulalry bad viz as a sub for a buddy line. Not lost anything yet - oh my god, did I say that - quick pass me some wood to touch!

Oh you've jinxed it now !
I can just see you at the end of your next dive ;
Blimey that was a cold one , wait a minute , where's me drysuit gone ? !! :D
