View Full Version : Can you fix this one?
Just wondering if any of you photoshop experts can do anything with this.

It would be a good shot if not for the blurring and backscatter - and there's something wrong with its eye.:(
PM me for the original file
That will be a tough one. If the original shot is blurred or out of focus no amount of photoshopping will make it a good pic.
Saeed Rashid from divernet is doing another one of his digital workshops at the LIDS, and he is looking for some example photos.
just in case anyone has ay good examples.
Scott is correct about the image not being in focus, but I had a go anyway:

Pretty cool,the difference is amazing.
Thats bl**dy great - I think photoshop will be on the next birthday list.
Dont bother, I know someone who could give you a disk ;)
Oh and thanks. It was a tough one and took me 3 attempts to get as good as it is. There is a lot more you could do with the healing brush or clone tool if you had a lot of time. But I just did a few basics.
C'mon guy's please don't entertain this, im beggin! it's bad enough buddying with a photographer but this! tapping away at the computer, not paying me enough attention! what's next, skype conference calls:D

Had a little go but got poor results on my first try :( . Tonal improvement but colours way off the mark.
Soz Olddog
nice change in the lighting, Olddog, what did you use?
very impressive, you've even fixed the eye.

Is this any better?

Don't need photoshop or to be an expert - the one button fix (okay I sharpened the image a bit too). Is there actually anythign wrong with the eye as I have photos of congers with eyes like this or did you see it differently underwater?
The lack of scatter by Chris and olddog is better, but didn't like the colours guys- nevertheless, no idea which one is actually nearer the mark!

Hi Chris, I used Adobe PS7 to work over the edit. It wasnt up to the job and could have been better with the more advanced shadow and HL tools in CS2/3.
The project was challenging from the beginning, but it had some points in its favor.
It's main plus points being the strong composition i.e. the eye and mouth holding that bold anchor point in the L.H upper third. It was also a strong interesting subject.
The shot suffered from the usual U.W handicaps of back scatter, colour casts and blow outs. But its big challenge was the soft focus of the subject and the dominating bland foreground blast.
So how did I fix it? Well I didn’t! The edits failed due to poor colour editing results, and dominating bland foreground detail. It lost that striking emerald Isle cast but I still couldn’t tame the colour balance. The coralline pinks and fish flesh tone is well off the mark. Actually Peters one press auto fix is produced the best flesh tone of all the edits!
What improvements I felt I made. Well the back scatter didn’t respond to a dust and scratches filter but improved with a Gaussian blur. This also helped move the focus of attention forward in the shot. I selectively sharpened up the eye and mouth areas to bolster it strongest area. I then removed the milky cast from the eye. This gave the viewer's eye a point to migrate to. I then attempted to mute the foreground with feathered selections adjusting the tonal balance. This is when it started going pear shaped. It altered the lighting mood to give precedence to the subject but I couldn’t pull off a realistic detail effect. The overall colour balance also went to rat sh*t at this point as well.
