View Full Version : tuesday night diving
OK then since last week was called off for weather and I cannot make tonight, are the usual suspects up for next Monday, the weather doesnt look too bad but then it will be my trip so weather will be goosed. Tuesday is also an option if the weather changes as I am working in Glasgow Mon-tues from now on.
I would like to try out my new macro set up for my camera so need a someone patient and with a suitable light source to help out. (not too much!)
Alex, Scott, Flibble ??
I can't do Monday. I'd be up for Tuesday though.
tuesday should be OK for me then, if you can sort the weather.

Remainig IN THE continent sounds better, and less like you have 'age problems'.:) Like teaching your kids to say knife and fork and not the other way round. (Say it quick);)

I might not make it tomorrow. I have to finsh a bit of work Wed morning so I might need to work late to finish it :(
But I'll let you know tomorrow afternoon for definate. I'll have my gear in the car.
I'll maybe join you if that's ok. Busting for a dive now that the nice weather is here!
no problem.

When can you make it. I might need to work on a bit. It might suit me to meet up later.
Yeah I can wait until later too, what time can you get there?

No probs with me either, I'll be there by 6.30 either way.
Sorry chaps, i could have been there for around 8pm but now can't go tonight anyway as i have to head across to fife at 5.30pm (Fecking Customers). I could normally be through for 7.30 - 8.00 pm if i plan a few days ahead. With Loudy out of action and Regthing sorting his basement for the gimp and Lindsay's wimpin out until it's warmer and Snow, my diving has been ZERO this year. Are you planning a dive next week ? if so what day and i'll plan ahead and bring my gear.

Tue or Wed next week is good for me.
I'm quickly thinking of saying f#ck it and just going diving anyway. I'll hold off to the last minute though. Probably plan to leave here at 1730, which will actually mean 1800 so I'll probably be there at 1900. Drop me a text when you decide which dive site and I'll go straight there. If I don't hear from you I'll get you at the pit stop.
No probs Scott, hopefully see you there. I will probably be there somwewhere between 1830-1845.
Wednesday next week would be good for me.
Reg - When are you diving at the weekends again ?

How'd you get on?
Which site did you dive and wis that tart Beryl there? (she'll dive with anybody)
Heading in that direction tonight, site still undecided but hopefully she will put in an appearance.
/Colin, :D
Hi Colin,
We ended up at Conger Alley as there was 5 cars. We had Chris (who is has now redeemed himself on the weather front), Gord, Mr F, Tommy (Mr F's mate) and my wee self. Nice to meet Gord for the first time :D
The weather was spot on. Not a cloud in the sky, lots of stars and the water was like glass. Not the warmest mind you.
I took my usual length of time to kit up so Gord, Mr F and Tommy headed down to the water first, Chris and I followed (close behind ).
We headed down to 15m and hung a left. First thing we came across was a big conger starring straight at us. Spent a bit of time on the lower reef but headed up quite early as Chris had his camera and we wanted to see a bit more life.
I had a girly moment when a conger took a "lunge" at me. (It was actually more like a wriggle with an inch of forward movement :o), anywho it made me let out a bit of a yelp, which Chris heard :o
Moving swiftly on......
There was lots of life to be seen. A good spattering of Congers, lots of poor cod (or Sathe) who where quite happy with our presence. A good few wrasse sleeping under rocks, a massive edible crab and lots of interesting small stuff.
I thought it felt warmer than a couple of weeks a go but still clocking in at 8.8 deg in the shallows, in the mid 9's below that. It was feckin cold getting changed..... But a nice warming pint in the Village Inn helped that :D
All in all a good dive. But to answer your question, no Beryl :(
Cheers to all for the dive.
Never been to Conger Alley, do you know if your diving tuesday or wednesday next week yet ?
Yeah - thanks guys - I really enjoyed it! :):)

Anyone fancy a dive tomorrow night? Anywhere west.
not this week. I put my regs in for a service on friday
Was tempted, but think I can only manage every two weeks, work is pretty hecticv at the moment!
Can I post this on Tuesday night diving?
Chris, I thought we were diving Wednesday?

Cannae make any night this week, up to my eyes decorating. :(
You're all b@$t@rd$. Every time I logged on today and seen there was a new message on this thread my heart leaped; only to be dashed by yet another person telling me they CAN'T make it
In the nicest possible way of course :D
Apparently Chris is in Edinburgh on Wednesday - anyone know where we can dive on the East Coast at night (you could come thorugh here Scott if we arrange anything). Saves me driving for 2 hours plus each way to go for one evening dive!
In fact, are their any dive sites nearer to Edinburgh than Dunbar (still lacking a working bridge) or St Abbs or is it all just a big sludgy heap(the diving, not the City of course :D).
I got all excited when I saw Lizardlands question about parking at Newhaven Harbour, until I saw that he was joining a boat!
No one have any idea about diving nearer Edinburgh then?
Shogs Hole (Just Outside Winchburgh), Clay Pit (In Winchburgh), Powmill (In Powmill), Eyemouth and St Abbs. These are all the places i dive near Edinburgh
Nearly dived Seacliff once ( blown off with the weather ).
Supposed to be a good dive though and it certainly seems to have the right ingredients.
Its 3 miles west of North Berwick , head west out of Auldhame.
A nice beach and a couple of ruined castles to explore as well.

Would be happy to dive there once this crappy weather blows out.
Cheers , JohnnyB

Nearly dived seacliff myself last year but ended up just snorkelling as it's some walk in your kit
Would like to have a look at this place
Having spent a lot of time in North Berwick, it would have to be really good conditions for this to be an enjoyable dive!
I totally agree Chris.
It's a very exposed site and the entry throught the little harbour has a marvellous way of funnelling the waves so that the 6 inches of swell at the mouth turns into something a hawaiian beach dude would be happy to surf , right at the point where you would be going in.
Handy for me though , only about 30 mins away , so good for a spur of the moment dive if the conditions were good.
Cheery , JB.

I dived that area about 20 years ago. I get confused with the 2 sites we did (Eyemounth and North Berwick). If I remember one had a carpark at the top of a cliff and a wooden stairway was constructed to take you down to a wee cove, I think this was Eyemouth. The other was a Harbour, you walked round the harbour to the narrow harbour entrance then entered the water here and swam round the headland, I think this was North Berwick. Both dives where good and relatively shallow, Eyemouth was very exposed and subject to big swells. Like I say it was sometime ago so not sure of locations.
Hiya.
First one sounds like it might be Weasel Bay , at Eyemouth.
Seacliff is kind of out in the middle of nowhere.
It has a wee harbour ( check out the link in my original posting for some pics ) at the left hand end of a long sandy beach.
You can drive almost right down to the beach and park next to a riding school.
Entry through the harbour and head clockwise around the headland.
Exit back the way you came.
Not very deep I would imagine for those of you that crave the big numbers.
Us piddlers will be happy enough :O)

Hi all,
Looks like myself and Tommy K are going out for a night dive next Tuesday (01/05/08), meeting at Pitstop around 6-6.30pm. Location TBD. Anyone fancy it? All welcome. Get in there before the midges put an end to night diving for the summer. :D
Ok, I am going to get wet in July (weather permitting) Dan and myself are going to go up to Loch Long Tuesday 29th after work to test some new kit/configurations out. Anyone want to join us. Probably conger for the easy entry and familiarity with an expected arrival time of 1830(ish).
Just a thread bump to see if anyone wants to join Dan and I on Tuesday night??
Going to be either A frames/Finnart or Conger Alley!
