Was talking to Alex Maclennan about how many people were looking at the local dive sites MOD reef site he thinks its cos of the photos here. So here r some pics from the kintyre.

A view showing the old pumphouse on the left and the exit from the sea on the right

PS reports of sharks bitting divers here is rubbish.

The dissused sewage pipe (The kintyre used to be called the jobby boat because of the stuff that came out the end of the pipe)
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/johnnicolson/The%20Kintyre/sewagepipe.jpg

The deck now has a few holes giving access to the bow section. There is a lot of silt in there so line off if you go in.

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/johnnicolson/The%20Kintyre/Holeinthedeck.jpg

The bow which the top stands 3-4m from the seabed. The outside plates are not there anymore just like the Thiesis in the sound of mull.

Details of how to dive the Kintyre from the shore are on the Scotish divesites section

The picture was ment to be like that. It was to show the exit from the dive.
It took about a dozen shots to get the water in the right place and get the
dry land exposed properly. But I was just lucky to get one of those pesky sharks ;)

If you look at the local divesites and the kintyre you will see why I was trying to get this picture.

looks very similar to a rag worm, but they have tiny feather like legs.
they can also grow up to about 1 meter in length, how long was this one?

I've not done it yet, but definitely fancy it. Just have to persuade someone to buddy with me.

I'm also very tempted by Portencross, MOD Reef, Carrick Castle... basically them all! You've done a fantastic job, Dingster! ;)

I dont think its a ragworm or king ragworm.....

I think its this dude: Phyllodoce lamelligera "Paddle worm".

He's in my book (Oxford photographic guide to the sea and shore life of britain and NW europe - Gibson, Hextall and Rodgers page 146) But i cant seem to find many of him on the internet. Heres a link though http://www.unige.ch/sciences/biologie/biani/msg/teaching/photos%20liste/Phyllodoce%20laminosa.jpg

and

Quite sure it aint a ragworm......

So far we have three candidates for the picture. Rag worm, king rag worm and paddle worm....

Do we have any other bids?

Not yet. I was looking around Wemyss Bay a couple of weeks ago scouting out the parking and entry point.

Alan and I plan to dive Ashton Slip in Gourock on Saturday, as my brother comes off the Dunoon ferry around lunchtime, after the Mod in Dunoon.

There's a nice rocky area at the yacht club that makes a good dive too. There's a tiny car park, maybe enough for four cars, on the sea front. Enter the water there and swim out. It's only about 15m or so.

Ding, Have to dive the place first. Stuart, thanks for the tip about the yacht club - the slip is just beside the club so I'll look at that, topside as well.

good idea, :)
although safety is priority, this dive is not for everyone.
from the shore or a boat?
if from the shore & large numbers were present it would be a good idea to log divers in & out no matter what affiliation they are from.

Ding

You would need to make sure you did not P--s of the residents. If to many arrived at the same time they might try to stop us diving there...:(

15-03-07, 21:55
Yeah, alot of folk showing up at once with a fleet of cars will pee off the residents, this could make further diving here awkward. A couple of boats acting as taxis could ferry divers from the wee sandy bay at the entrance to the private road and act as surface cover. Cars could be parked at the hotel. A good idea to dive it on the 100th anniversary, none of us will get a chance of that again.

HI,
I DIVED IT LAST NIGHT AND HAD A GREAT TIME ... BOUT FIVE MTS VIS. I'M UP FOR A 100 ANNIVERSARY DIVE. THAT'LL BE ON 18TH OF SEPTEMBER SO PLENTY OF TIME TO ORGANSE SOMETHING. I COULD ASK ELAINE IF SHE'D BE INTERESTED IN TAKING CLUTHA OUT THAT NIGHT. WOULD LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF DIVERS TO TWELVE BUT WOULD SAVE ANY POTENTIAL HASSLE WITH THE RESIDENTS
