View Full Version : Atlantic Divers 24hr Sponsored Dive
Atlantic Divers are calling on divers throughout Scotland to participate in the forth-coming event to raise money for the Cash For Kids charity.
The event will be a 24 hour dive, the aim of the event is to have at least two divers continuously underwater over a 24 hour period. This will be achieved by operating a relay system were each buddy team will spend a period of 30 minutes, each buddy pair will carry out two 30 minute dives over the 24 hour period.
The event will take place at the Quarry Tearoom on Loch Fyne and will be held on the Saturday 7th of October and run from 12 noon on the Saturday until 12 on the Sunday, the owner of the tearoom has offered to keep his facilities open throughout the event, see our website www.atlantic-divers.co.uk. for further details over the next few weeks
To carry out this event will involve a massive amount of logistical support, any donations of equipment, surface cover or actual divers to participate would be appreciated. If you would like to take part in this worthwhile cause please contact either Ian or James at: Ian@atlantic-divers.co.uk or James@atlantic-divers.co.uk
History of Atlantic Divers.
Atlantic Divers are a non-profit making, non-affiliated diving club, we are open to divers from all organisations and welcome divers of any qualification. We have been operating for 6 years and we have 45 members from all around central Scotland. All proceeds raised from this event will go directly to the Cash For Kids Charity.

I'll ask my buddy - I'm usually awake from 3/4/5 am so could do the early shift (and my wife would not even need to know that I had been away).

Hi Gord
During the summer I'm often awake from 3 or 4 am - I do tend to wake with the sun. Sometimes manage 14 or 15 holes on the golf course before work. I'm not one for late nights and can fall asleep at table or chatting (OK often pissed) and certainly go out like a light as soon as my head hits the pillow.

No I don't know. It will be fun whatever time. I'm more of a night owl than a morning person. Must be something to do with years of night duty:)

You'll be handing the baton over to a couple of our divers who have the 03.00-03.30 slot ;)
I'm in from 01.00-01.30.
I just had the latest up date from Shep. If you expected to be or want to be with this program and your names not on the list get in touch now. The contact links were posted earlier in the thread.
Dear All,
D-Day is getting closer! Just a short update on how the event is progressing. At the end of the update is the register of the timeslots, please check this out to make sure you know what time your are diving.
Logistics: Most of the items have now been begged, borrowed or stolen (only kidding on the stolen items). The list includes site lights, extensions, 2 generators, underwater lights, timers, gazebo's, tables chairs, tents, underwater weights, ropes, deco station, etc, the list is so massive that we need a lorry to transport it!
Signage: All signage has been printed and laminated for both above and below the water. There will be directions signs from Inveraray and the full site will be signed, Marshal's with be clearly identified and two massive banners have been produced for the event.
Safety: A site check in board will be the first point of contact for divers and a logging in and out board with tags for each diver has been made, we have produced a risk assessment (will be on website shortly) and a method statement has been drawn up, the coastguard will be notified and we will pass them a copy of the risk assessment, the local council has been informed, we will have RIB cover on standby through out the event, two standby divers with kit on the shore will cover the full 24hrs, two marshal's will be on the check in station and marshal's station throughout the event.
Advertising: We've had an article in the Scottish Diver Mag, there will be a brief pre-dive article in Diver Mag (possible post dive report), we have been in contact with PADI and hope to get a post dive article in Sport Diver Mag, there was mention in the Evening times the other night and we are hoping to get some coverage from the nationals, the owner of the tearooms is arranging coverage from the local papers and we will get a mention on radio Clyde. We have done some research and cannot find any other events that have been held in the open sea? so this may be a first in Britain! (even got a piper to start the event).
Sponsors: We have had a great response from our sponsors, Rod Conway Financial Services has donated £300, Soups U, Restaurant has donated £300, Mark-it, Label Manufacturer has provided all banners, Logbook stamps and the tagging system, Splashsports diving services will provide air for all divers taking part, Braveheart Security is provided two stewards and radio equipment for the 24hr period, Quarryview tearooms are providing the dive site and making a donation from the takings over the dive period and PSN, Oil rig support company is donating £500. A big thanks to all our sponsors.
Divers: All divers taking part will receive a printed tee-shirt to commemorate the event and we would be grateful if you could bring your logbook along as we have had a special stamp produced for the event.
The committee is traveling up on the Friday to start the site preparation, we have booked 5 rooms at a hotel in Inverary for the Friday night, if you can get the day off and want to help us in the site preparation, please contact us ASAP as the hotel only has a few rooms left, we have arranged a half price deal on the rooms for the event, £20 per person!
If you are diving please remember to bring two full tanks of air (or Nitrox if qualified) and also your qualifications - Remember, no qualifications - no dive! there will be a big supply of spare gear if required. All we need now is everyone to start collecting cash!, please hassle everyone you know for donations.
Here is the list of timeslots so far, can you please check this and ensure that you turn up at least an hour before your dive time so that the change over runs smoothly, remember we have 96 dives which is 48 x 30mins buddy pair slots to coordinate over the 24hrs, we need this to run with military precision and need all divers taking part to turn up on time and follow the dive procedure exactly to ensure that the dive chain is not broken. We are having a club meeting on the 28th Sept, 7.30pm at the Bonnie Prince Charlie Pub in East Kilbride to go over final event preparations, all divers from all organisations are welcome to attend if you require any further information or just want to come along for a chat.

Safe Diving,
Atlantic Divers
Come on guys, we need to do our bit for cash for kids. Mermaid has a sheet with nearly £100 of donations. The rest of us can at least turn up and dive or be dive spares (ment in the best possibe way). Who's going from conger alley?
My wife Sarah & I are in from 11:30-midnight (we've changed our slot since the list above). Another 6 divers from our club (including Euan who I buddied with @ CA on Sun) are also diving during the night.
Alexmac & his buddy are also on duty in the early hours.
Have you got a time slot, Ding or are you a reserve? The last I heard there were still some slots during the night to be filled; not sure what the situation is now.
early sun morn if my cold is gone.....;)
