DIN for me as well. It's safer as far as I'm concerned. :)

A clamp is most popular but its an old system Din is up to date and is a lot safer. Thats my view.

A clamp 'cos I'm out of date and unsafe.
Alex
a-clamp more popular and easier to connect
easier to protect first stage against flooding
o-ring can blow but very rare during a dive usually would happen on the surface
mostly for sports diving
din can be used with 300-bar tanks or any din tank
some a-clamps don’t fit over some a-clamp tanks (classic scuba with beaver type valve)
take longer to connect
mostly for techie diving
Or buy a din reg and an a-clamp connector best of both worlds
Have u ever seen an a-clamp on an industrial pressure unit? no its din and thats for lower pressures. ;)

Me too :) ;)
Me too :) ;)
And I know why, It worked for jack custerd so its good enough for you :D
What would u buy now if u had to buy cylinders and regs?
anyone thinking about regs should buy din fittings.
o'rings on a'clamps do burst under water, seen it happen.
whats more alarming is the speed in which air escapes from the cylinder.
a'clamps do have their place, they are not dangerous, just not as safe.
it's your life, how much money is that worth?

Have to vote DIN here. If I was to buy again, I'd do the same again! I just think it is a neater solution.
Just my tuppence worth.
/Colin. :D
A-clamp.
But I'm lazy and slapdash with my kit. This is why i must never be allowed a rebreather ;)

DIN for me, I converted my a-clamps about 10 years ago. I'm slapdash and unreliable too, that's why I don't use a-clamp :)
A-clamp can't be that unsafe, the US Navy uses them on their Mk15/16 rebreathers.

They prob had a pallet full and just used them. the navy are not allowed deep anyway sport divers go deeper so an a-clamp would prob do them.
Why did u convert yours? ;)

Yup, personally I use a DIN fitting cause I use 300 bar cylinder, never seen a DIN o-ring go pop, but have seen a couple of A-clamp o-rings go (on the surface, never witnessed it during a dive)

Lazy, cheapskate (15 year old Apex set cost me £45 a few years ago) me also saw and heard an O-ring go on my rig just before diving into Red Sea - so I'll change the O ring on the cylinder allocated to me before diving in the Maldives or any other liveaboard.
alex
Last year on a liveaboard in the Red Sea we had half a dozen blow outs from what I thought were Yolk Valves (US PADI training for you!) and all were on the way down at about 20m.
I was told the Egyptian tanks were slightly (just slightly!) different from the UK ones therefore caused the number of blow outs when the BSAC lot were using their A-valves (?).
I didn't have my own regs back then and so didn't have any problems as I hired mine onboard for the week ... Although mine were also A-valves they were Egyptian so the seal fitted perfectly (so I was told!)
I've only just seen Din ones and it's interesting to hear that you all think what I've always used are not as safe as the DIN ones... I'll keep it in mind when I buy a new set!! :)

Also look into the price of servicing and the availability around the world
So that leaves Apex or Scubapro.
Would anybody disagree with that?

Of course not we all know better than to do that......;)
DIN for me also. I think its much tider, Also like the idea of a captured 'o'ring.
Alex
I'd put Aqualung before Apeks
Aqualung/US divers are world wide
about the same price to serivice as an apeks
this new ACD thing looks pretty cool and I'd image all 1st stage will have them in the future

Apeks is part of the Aqualung/US Divers group of companies and have the same worldwide distribution network.
yeah they also own intersprio
thats why apeks and aqualung mouthpiece are the same
aqualung regs tend to be cheaper than apeks plus have a world wide service
so why do divers still buy apeks over aqualung?
I started out using US divers, Still have those valves, and there r still working. Then I started to dive deeper and got new kit. I asked all the guys I knew and checked all the pictures of divers that were doing the deep stuff and apex seemed to be a favourate. Then I got an Inspiration and it had apex valves. So most of my valves are apex a posidion suit valve and us divers scuba.

The TX series of Apeks regs are quite cheap, you can get them for <£200. Last one I bought cost me £150 new for a TX40. It's not all about cost though, Apeks are the most reliable regs I've ever used. I have five TX40's plus two DS4's on my rebreather, 2 Poseidon Cyklones, 1 Poseidon Jetstream, 1 Interspiro and 1 Scubapro (can't remember model no's), my Apeks are overall the best performing. They never give me any bother, I have one which is 15yrs old, never been serviced and I still trust it enough as my bail out reg with my rebreather.
Cheers,
Stuart
