I was night diving last night, viz wasn't too great due to having high winds and waves over the weekend.

Fun was had with the swimming crabs, heading for me. I nearly keeched ma pants when a big one came at me.

On my way back to the beach, meandering in about 1m of water, there were a few anemones, heres some photos I took.

I'm quite chuffed with a few of them, they may get printed out.

I'll need to do some work with them to remove the speckles, which means more Photoshop fun.

I'll suffer the wrath of a moderator if I tell you where I am...lol

but what the hell!

I was solo night diving the Rockingham Ball Park Wreck Trail, in Western Australia. The images were cleaned up slightly using iPhoto.

I had my Beaver plasma led torch mounted on the arm of my camera mount, you can see the very bright spot of light in some of the pictures, coupled with the flash.

They remind me of a type of tube anemone that I found in the Maldives in the shallow lagoons. When disturbed they would shrink back down into a three foot deep hole.
The sound they made when retreating was like the plug pulled on a bath, I have to admit to setting a few off out of devilment. :o

Lovely pictures, I like the contrasting shape of the feeder and stinger tentacle tips. Love the port wine red tip colouration.

These pictures were taken in about 12m or 13m of water whereas all pictures of the anemones were taken in about 1m of water, before the drop off. How they survive I don't know, because it is a very very busy beach at the weekend with families.

When I was taking the pictures, a small cloud of "stuff" was being emitted from the anemones, they also had tiny little animals caught in their tentacles, very cool.

Nice pics Andy, you're coming on. Shame about the burn out from you're spotting torch, you might want to try diffusing it.

(p.s. I'll let you say where you are if someone asks ;) :D )

That last one is called Shaws Cowfish or Shaws Boxfish - not recommended for eating as they are poisionous. A real cute fish lovely to watch, swims really fast.
