View Full Version : Night dive this week?
Right! It has been over two weeks now.
Who fancies a night dive this week? I was thinking Loch Long. I want to see Beryl :D
Any night other than Friday. I finish work at 1630 so probably looking at 1730 before I can get there.

OK.
It's just up the road for me. Long drive for you ;) :p
Shall we not bother with torches either? :D
I was up past there today, divers coming out of the water after calling the dive due to the wind. Must of been a smelly fart as one of them looked very green :D :D
who needs torches when you have 10 eyes?
I think you've spent too long in the Holy Loch :D

i can write it up now...
we got there, it was dark & rainy.
we got in the water, it was freezing due to the rainwater run off.
once under 10m it was slightly warmer but the viz was less than 1m.
passing the 2nd rock face section, the viz cleared to around 2m & was such for the rest of the dive.
our max depth was 32m outgoing, just beyond the scree slope we turned the dive, while looking for but not finding the swim through cave we eventually saw Beryl feeding on some sprats.
all in all a good dive.
total run time was 45 minutes, temp 11 degrees.
we stopped off at the village inn for a pint of stella on the way back to warm ourselves up after getting soaked to the bone while getting changed in the dark.
loudy ran over his torch with his car...:o

I mean it would be good in a Nostridamis sort of way! Honest  :D
Sounds like an interesting dive they had....
Cracking dive. 45 mins, 33m, 5m viz, Beryl says hi :)
No incidents with car keys. Don't listen to anyone else :D
turned out to be a really good dive but not without the comedy of errors!
first up, was Mr Flibble, meeting us at the wrong place, so the dive was 1/2 an hour later than planned but no big deal as the weather was favorable, not near as windy or rainy as predicted.
loudy & i arrived first, it was pitch black, back-up torches used for kitting up made life a little easier before regthing arrived (ever prepared, like a good boy scout) with his gas lantern & flask of coffee, not that he shared any of the coffee, but we did get the benefit of his light.
now kitted up & awaiting the arrival of Mr Flibble, in the end he showed up after missing us at the caves & reaching Glen Douglas road end before realising.
so we eventually hit the water, it was pretty cold with the run off, the viz was really good, about 6-7m for most of the dive.
i buddied with Loudy & we were in front slightly, but more a loose group of 4.
we managed to find the swim through cave before turning the dive & heading back around the 15-18m range.
Mr F. & Regthing were buzzed by Beryl a few times, i only saw her once myself right at the end of the dive, Loudy still has not seen Beryl.
once out the water we started to put the kit away.
at this point regthing told us how he keeps his car key in the car & takes his electronic FOB diving in a small watertight capsule.
you can see where this is going cant you??
in order to make the capsule watertight, you need to use the o'ring!
the o'ring had been left on the car bumper & the FOB had just endured a 45 minute dive in salt water.
the doors of the car were not for opening as the small 12volt battery was now dead.
the FOB now stripped & in pieces, drying out on the lantern after being washed in fresh water was still not playing the game.
Loudy stripped out his boot light to expose 2 wires (+/-) and the FOB circuit board was connected rather like something you would see on the A' team.
after many attempts, it eventually worked & the car doors were opened, i was quite impressed.
it was now getting close to last orders at the Village Inn, but we made it.
appologies for inviting you all to go & not taking my wallet...:o
i will buy you all a pint back next time ;)
Cheers guys for a great dive with the viz much better than i'd expected, the caves is an awsome site :D :D
likely story about the wallet :o
Come on Stewart. You're not shy. If you wanted a coffee you just need to say :D
Still can't get the A-team theme tune out my head  :D

Yeah, a bit of a comedy of errors, me waiting at the Little Chef at Milton, Regthing waiting at the Pitstop in Arrochar and Stew and Loudy waiting at the Caves. My headlights were so dirty I could hardly see the road ahead, that added to the numpty behind me putting on his full beam meant I completely missed the Caves and I believe I managed to soak Loudy with spray when I passed :D. Anyway had a great dive, a free swimming conger, lots of fish and Beryl, fresh water run off to about 10m BBBRRRRRR!!!!!
Who's up for next week?

Ah the mystery of why I couldn't see anything when driving is solved. Noticed last night that my nearside headlight bulb is dead  Have just ordered a set of Xenon/HID thingy bulb upgrades on-line so I'll maybe find this weeks dive site OK. ;)
