I was diving the sound of mull at the weekend on the silver swift (very fast boat with good skipper / diver ) we dived the breda, the viz was not good but its always a great rummage dive. then we did one of the classic cliff face dives, Calf Island (just outside Tobermory) the face was covered in soft corals, dead mens fingers, plumrose anemones a colour garden, a feast for your eyes, great dive. Our third dive dive was the Mishnish strong lager and tequila. After the third dive of we went to the b+b. On sun the breakfast would have choaked a horse, I didn't finish it which is unusual. We left on the boat at 11am very civilised. the first dive was on the rondo to a depth of 40m as I was diving with a sport diver training for their master diver. the second dive was on the theisis, this is usually a good dive and it did not disapoint. We entered the wreck at 17m on the bow and we exiited at the stearn at 31m then back over the top to the prision with plumrose bars on the bow. A great weekends diving. I can second that. Thanks to everyone who came on the trip. The ingredients all came together: a good group of divers, good weather, great skipper and boat, and excellent food and drink. Oh yes, and some of the best dive sites in Europe!

My favourite was the Rondo. I must have dived it about a dozen or so times by now, but I always seem to get more out of it. This time, we saw 2 free-swimming congers which I consider really unusual. The viz was very reasonable, and the lower swimthrough between the ship and the wall was packed with fish.

I think the reason why this dive improves with time is that you need to learn to take your time on it. On earlier attempts I always came up to quickly from depth and then had to spend the bulk of the dive at towards the stern (20-10m). Perhaps the trick is to not go to the bows so that you have to hurry back up to your deco stops, but rather to spend as much time as possible between 40 and 20m, where the bulk of the interest is.

ANyway, great trip! Could have stayed for a week.

Silver Swift is a great boat, sounds like a brilliant weekend. The vis looked very tempting when I went across on the ferry last week so I can't wait til Saturday.

I can't believe you missed out fish suppers from the chip van on the pier that the skipper's missus runs! And don't ever make the mistake of staying in the Mishnish! £60 for a double room and the cheeky sods charge you a pound to use the showers!

Cheers,

Stuart

Right guys stop rubbing it in... had just earned enough brownie points to take up the empty place on the Mull trip when I came down with a bloody cold!

Still blocked up after 2 weeks, I think I might need a seawater gargle to get rid of it.

Excellent idea! We're renting a cottage in Strontian for a week in October. It's only 12 miles from Lochaline so a day's diving would be perfect and I could have a lie in rather than an early start to get to Oban :)
