I've all ready told this tale but it deserves to be in this section.
Diving the A frames with a couple of chaps with my twin 7's, they both had singles and a spare one for the 2nd dive so the plan was I would call it when I had used half my air (150bar)
Did the buddy check, checked both my pillar valves where open then I was asked if I wanted my isolation valve checked? I said no thanks, I never close it anyway.
Half an hour into the dive and I've only used 50 bar. It wasn't deep but even at that I was thinking I was doing exceptionally well with my consumption. Until the breathing became hard.... very hard..... with 230bar showing on my gauge
Switched to my alternate and it was fine, then the penny dropped. I checked by isolation valve and it was CLOSED! Open it then whoosh, down to 80 bar and a fair bit to go home :(
Wasn't exactly life threatening but if you can't reach your valves and you can't trust your gauge then it could get a tad stressful
Always check everything with your buddy!
It turns out my instructor turned isolated my tanks when I was in the pool doing shared breathing exercises. He was hoping we'd run out of air and wanted to see how we would cope
He forgot to tell me he had done it...
