Me and Snorkel123 had the most amazing experience ever at The Caves Loch Long last night.
This is the first time i have seen her, it was the best she was so graceful just swimming around us for most of the dive looking for fish.
My chest was beating very fast but at no time did i feel intimidated although i think Brian was not as comfortable with it as i was.

She must be back for the winter! :)
Has anyone seen her during the summer?
please fill out a Beryl watch, it would be nice to log her apperences, and condition.

hi lads,
just home, well, after geriatric me finally got in,( i'm applying for a grant for a chair lift down there!),we went down to approx 30mtrs,not a lot to see,had a bit of a fanny about, then came up a bit as my mask kept on flooding, then wham!!beryl was everywhere!!,my buddy,Martin, didn't really know what I was on about talking about beryl when we met at the site,he wasn't long in finding out!!she was all over him,as he only had on his spare small torch,as his main torch had packed in,i presume she wasn't so intimidated by the smaller beam. She nearly had his mask off!!.He has dived since he was approx 15,and that's the closest he's been to a seal, underwater. She was with us the whole dive,in fact she kicked up most of the ****!!.When we got out,she was watching us from a couple of mtrs away. She made a couple of honking noises, sounded like -f**k off ya auld tosser!! heh heh!;)
I posted this in the blog section as well.

Beryl was at her acrobatic best on Friday night- 14th Dec. She circled us for the entire dive. She was doing some serious hunting: I saw a pollock with a seriously frightened look on its face - which is difficult for a fish- moving at a velocity close to light speed and thought, "That's odd". The explanation almost immediately presented itself in the form of our friendly neighbourhood pinniped barreling after the fish.
Great dive.

LMAO!!:D
I have only ever seen beryl once and she was on the surface at conger alley on March 15th 2006 i think and it was Snowing Heavy!! And yes we were diving, had to break ice to get in lol. I have still never dived the caves yet but hope to do so soon as i have heard tonnes of good reports about that site.

My first night dive, at Congar Alley, with Chris from EDC (back in ... 2006) was blessed with a visit from a seal which I guess must have been Beril. It was a winter evening after work (don't have my logbook to hand). Chris had said on the way over that there was sometimes a seal at Congar Alley. We were a couple of metres apart looking at the sea life when she buzzed us once. I wasn't shocked and recognised her to be a seal when I saw her fins as she did an about turn in front of me. Chris was less lucky. She buzzed him very close. He said he was looking at loads of sleepy fish when they all disappeared all of a sudden. Moments later Beril buzzed him. He said he jumped out of his skin, and screamed through his reg ! :D We spent the next 5 mins looking out for her but she didn't return :(
She made it a very memorable dive though. :)
.aint seen beryl about for a while @the caves, anyone else seen her anywhere?
Good thread revival G, never new there was a Beryl thread. Saw her a few times this year on the surface kitting up, once @ caves, once @ CA. Scottish Diver n Regthing got buzz'd with here I'm sure towards the end of last year on a night dive.
DD
Does anyone know why she's named Beryl?
Bloody seal!! dived the caves a few weeks ago and she followed us for the whole dive, always just in front of us stirring up the silt, it would have been 6m viz but with her there it was always 2m!! as we were swimming along we had silt and anenomes raining doon all the time, also had quite a few really close fly pasts.
enjoy your weekend next wk Jas

lol, some of the guys in the club dived the isle of man, were doing a cave and on the way in through the entrance tunnel a massive bull seal bolted out, just enough room for seal and diver, lol then when they got back on the boat the skipper said oh sorry ment 2 say its normally in there!:D
I was just on the phone to my mate who says he was at the Caves last night and Beryl followed them for the whole dive :)
If I dont manage it this week, next wk's a deff for a night dive.
