I've added some google adverts to the navigation bar header.
I know it's best to keep the site as advert-free as possible, but I'm also still trying to break even on hosting.
Hope this isn't too much spam. I promise that this is the absolute max adverts I'll ever put on the site.
But if you really object, let me know.

Gord I think a while ago there was talk of small contributions, I would have no problem assisting with this by way of a paypal payment, and I am pretty sure some of the regulars wouldnt complain either. Not sure how much you need to break even but a couple of quid from 10-20 or so regulars would that be enough?
The ads arent overly annoying, it was just nicer without them, but fully understand why.
By the way how many times do you need us to click each one for you :D
Surely a few ads at the top of a page are better than no conger alley. If thats the most cost effective, easiest option for Gord so be it. :D
I was going to post along the lines above. I know Chris'd contributed to other servers for his different hobbies (can't mention them on here! :eek: ). I am sure many of the regulars would be prepared to pay something, not me obviously :D , depending on how much is required.
If its a few pounds a year from the core group I would be prepared to pay. The more it gets, the less likely I guess I'd be, although I would be wondering how and why you manage! I don't have a figure in mind, but if you clarify what's involved I'm sure the answers would roll in quick!
Otherwise I have no real problem with the Google Ads, but they are a bit crap - I mean, "Dive Wimbledon and Putney", are they serious? :confused:

I don't mind the ads, in fact get more on here, you could put ads on my post's if you like, as long as i get some free product. Get onto Smirnoff NOW :D :D . I think it's a good idea to get the adverts on, can you have some for diver friendly hotels
I appreciate the thought guys, but I think the Internet should be free to users.
I would rather just take the ads down then take anyone's money.
Let's leave them for a while and see if we still notice them. I think YD has something similar.
The reason I have costs, by the way, is that CA is on a practically dedicated server. This makes Google like it.

Hardly notice the ads to be honest. I'd contribute if it kept the forum open, but I don't really see the issue if they're not too obtrusive.:cool:

There are probably very few sites on the internet that don't have advertising on them, it's become the norm. I think you get to the stage you do not notice them unless you are actually reading them.
If it means Gord can claw back some money then it's fine with me.
Who knows, the ads might be of interest to some and could actually save some people some money.
Just my tuppence worth!

if you click on an advert, it directs you away from the site rather than opening a new window or tab. i don't think thats good.
having them on every page :eek: but hey, if needs must.
i too would be willing to contribute...
after all if everyone chipped in the price of one air fill over 300 odd members im sure that would be enough to run the site for quite some time.

I can think of a few who might be interested.....
by the way, I've only got them set up on the default skin ~(deep n dark). If you really don't want to see them, then change to the default skin (which makes the site look like YD).
I don't expect regulars would be clicking them anyway; more likely to be passing spammers, guests and bots ...
How about setting them on Default style, doesnt most people use the deep and dark anyway?

I've been off line for over a week awaiting connection to Tiscali!!! Was meant to be connected by 22nd October:( I have had 'Conger withdrawals' according to my hubby. We are in business. I had 3000 emails to trawl through!!! I have just had a great time looking at some of the 'you tube' videos that I couldn't see before and the photos actually appear with the text. My son just welcomed me to the 21st Century. Cheeky article:D
I've switched these off. Not sure about them.
looks neater without them, although I was starting to get used to them!
