Ding,
out of curiosity, how on earth do you manage to dive every day?

I like a ski myself ... maybe we should have a sub-forum on other watersports?

Remember, waterskiing in Scotland isn't cold. It's just very cool. ;)

Conger alley was not as good as usual today, In the first 8m the viz was 2m then it cleared up to
at least 10m. the water temp is down prob all the freash water from the hills.

First shot is a Scallop at 15m aproaching the reef
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/johnnicolson/Conger%20Alley/Scallop.jpg

Second shot is the end of a dead mens finger aproaching the reef.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/johnnicolson/Conger%20Alley/Deadmensfingers.jpg

And got a picture of this crab on top of one of the bolders.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/johnnicolson/Conger%20Alley/Crab.jpg

And sea loch anenomys are taking over the loch, there every where
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/johnnicolson/Scotland/Sealochanemoney.jpg

No shoals of fish just small flatfish and the usual residents.

Campbell, mermaid and myself had a nightdive last night at conger alley. the viz was about 8m and the temp was 8 degC cold brrrrrr. There were plenty of congers and and a few good photo opertunities

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/johnnicolson/Conger%20Alley/Poorcod.jpg
Poor cod were swimming inbetween the rocks on the bottom reef...notice the sea loch anemone and
Sea squirts. There is so much to see if you just take your time...

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/johnnicolson/Conger%20Alley/Gobi.jpg
I'm shure this is a gobi but is it a black or rock gobi? I saw these on the top and bottom reef. Its quite hard to get a good picture of gobi as they are well camoflaged...

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/johnnicolson/Conger%20Alley/Plaice.jpg
There was a few plaice inbetween the top and bottom reef, again there are sea loch anemone and at the plaice's head there is a burrowing anemone.

http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j62/johnnicolson/Conger%20Alley/Pollack.jpg
And above and around there were Pollack slowly gliding in and out of vizability, quite spooky...

Is there a trend here:

8ºC at Conger
12ºC at GDRE
12-13ºC at Finnart

What temp will it be at the Caves?

I reckon 10-11ºC. ;)

Tried out my new camera at conger alley on Sunday, mixed results and a little leakage. Best picture by far wasn't even taken by me but of me.

http://file022.bebo.com/13/large/2006/10/29/20/17939465a2402849329b281255616l.jpg

most of my pictures showed a lot of scatter (built in flash + low vis + bad photographer) which I tried to remove using Photoshop but with limited results

The last one is clearly out of focus, unfortunately the slider between macro and landscape/underwater isn't adjustable while diving so I've yet to attempt using the macro setting. I'll just have to practice I guess.

i learned on that trip, how not to take photos.

A few tips to help u
try to take pics pointing the camera upwards not down, so get below the subject. Dont use the internal flash, unless the subject is close to the camera. if there is not enough light use a torch like a light cannon with diffusers or change the camera settings.

I had to play with you picture, just quickly burnt the bakground and changed the levels

Camera I'm using is a Sealife ReefMaster DC310 ( see http://www.sealife-cameras.com/cameras/dc310.html )

A few tips to help u

Thanks Ding I'll definetly need to bear these in mind. I'll also need to look into buying a proper torch (just have one of those cheap LED torches from LIDL and I need to disassemble it after each dive and clean the connectors of rust, might try modifying it with magnetic switches and fully enclosed battery pack. Also some of my pictures were taken while snorkelling so the upward angle isn't always possible.

I had to play with you picture, just quickly burnt the bakground and changed the levels
I hadn't touched this photo yet with photoshop, I would never have thought to burn the background to remove scatter, makes a remarkable difference.

Ding
02-11-06, 15:37
If there is a lot of scatter i burn it if there are a few spots I use spot healing
And if its a good picture I use spot healing. but it takes time and patience.
