View Full Version : Custom Moulded Regulator Mouthpiece
Do any of you have any experiance with these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Scuba-Diving-Custom-Moulded-Dive-Regulator-Mouthpiece_W0QQitemZ220136196614QQihZ012QQcategory Z16056QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)?
I find my long hose can tend to pull my reg to the right slightly. Might be worth a try.
I assume you have tried to re-route your hose?

It's a 2m hose coming from RH pillar, down the side of the cylinder, under RH weight pouch on harness, across chest, behind the neck and in gob. Proper DIR
It isn't a massive problem. Might have to straighten it up about once or twice a dive if I'm not paying attention. Something I can get my teeth into might be nice.
Might feel a bit strange to a panicing buddy if I need to donate it though. But maybe not
I would be conserned about the 5. Can be reshaped multiple times; with respect to how good it will hold its shape.
I used to use custom moulded mouth guards when I played Rugby and you shaped it once. Allbeit these things were for protection more than anything but the custom fit was to enable comfort.
I currently use the comfy mouth piece : http://www.divingdirectshop.co.uk/images/comfobite.jpg
£4.75 from Denney Diving (http://www.divingdirectshop.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=51_57&products_id=281) and I notice a huge difference when I switch to my octo or pony!
PS dont do a search for mouthpiece on Google, it comes up with S&M stuff!!

Naw, just means you warm it up again and remould it.

My new regs have this mouthpiece which i must admit it feels a bit strange having something in the roof of your mouth,i've only done 6 dives with them so i'm sure i'll get used to it.

buy them.:)
i have 2, you can reshape them a few times, you have to put the inserts shape retainers back in to them first. (couple of pins & a plug)
i made a bit of a mess of one of mine when i tried to stretch it over my Xstream (different shape than standard) but i eventually got it to mold & seal.
one of the best things i ever bought, they lessen jaw fatigue on the longer dives dramatically.
if you have to donate a reg, don't worry about your buddy, they will get air from it if their life depends on it.
at £15 inc. postage, that isn't bad, they are £19+ in most dive shops (correct me if you have seen cheaper).
i got 2 on eBay for £15 :D with free postage.
worth the investment as they will last you a lifetime, or until your teeth fall out.:)

I'd be a bit worried about donating it in an emergency, it's quite a gobful to deal with when it's shoved at you if you're on one lungful of air.
They are comfy though, I've had them on my RB mouthpiece, especially on long dives. I've also used the comfy bite mouthpieces as well on my stage regs, I like them too, though they do feel a bit weird at first.
Cheers,
Stuart

just replaced my comfy bite with a comfy bite (the middle section was about to tear off completely). I love this style of reg and would be loathed to go back to the standard style. I found that my jaw hurt a lot after my first few dives (when doing my OW) as I didn't feel comfortable that the reg would stay in without biting it.
I replaced mines in the Red Sea as it was kicking hell out of my gums with all the repeat dives. Bought one with an elongated mouthpiece that you can bite down on and fits all the way round the bite radious of your mouth. They are super comfy and take a lot of the strain out of the equation as the load is spread around your full mouth rather than to the front.
Good point from Stuart regarding donating the mouthpiece. The one I use can be used upside down (I have posiedens) but it is much better the right way up. My octopus has a standard mouthpiece!
Well I've ordered one.
Stewart has a point. If someone needs air they will get it. I'm using a long hose as my primary reg to be donated in an emergancy, but I'd rather be comfy for all my dives rather than worry about the minor inconvieniece of someone elses teeth pattern not quite matching mine in a situation that will hopefully never hapen.
When I get my pony set up sorted at the end of the month I'll keep that standard.
New toys :D
My pony is standard, But I treated myself to a molded mouthpiece
about 2 months ago, what a difference, I used to always be gnashin in on
my other inserts to keep them in my gub and was always an issue with my diving. So am glad you are getting a new mouthpiece....
wait till you feel the diff' fantastic.
Well it arrived today.
I made a bit of a mess of it on the first moulding. I managed to bite down on the side wall with my back teeth. But chuck it back in hot water and it has a bit of memory and it easy to reshape the rest of the way.
2nd moulding and it feels perfect. Had a wee play about and it feels really secure, no sideways movement at all and you hardly need to bite down to hold it.
Looks like it will be a cracking bit of kit. I'll find out on Sat.
take some extra cable ties with you, the mouthpiece is less supple than standard ones & tend not to seal as easy.
once sealed, they are fine.

I think it will be OK. The hole was a bit tight and I had to stretch it a bit to get it on. This deformed the mouthpeice so I just remoulded it on the reg. I was giving it a good suck to check for leaks and managed to suck the rubber flap for the exhaust valve through to the main body  :o
Fixed it now ;) :D

Me 2,
the diving industry is full of double entendres.
But that was just a blatan use of sexual innuendoes Scott
hahaha, shocked and stunned.
Hand on my heart there was not meant to be any innuendoes in there at all.
But anywho. Tried it out today and although I have never had anything so big in my mouth it felt perfectly at home. And not one drop of salty liquid passed my lips.....
