As Peter says Woo hoooooo!

Dived from MV Selkie last night with high tide slack, no swell so conditions were perfect for Tyes Tunnel :D . We got set with a short boat trip out then roll off the side. Entry to the tunnel is about 1.5m below the surface and quite narrow, then its pitch black like a cave as you free fall down the darkness towards the floor at around 10m. Then swim through about 6m high, by 4m wide and it must 30m long at least, then there is the choice of up over the easy way out or descend further into the darkness and crawl through the bottom out into another bay. We chose the bottom way, it gets darker and spookier as you get down and go under the large boulder. Swimming out into the bay is more boulders and kelp, we then followed the rock round until we got into the bay we had swam through from. Current was interesting
when we moved out of the shelter of the big rocks and the intention was to swim for a reef out a bit from the bay and shoreline but the big boulders and rocks were full of saith, wrasse, lobster (some monster big ones), squats, edibles, velvets and tons of nudibranchs. Not so many pipefish, I only spotted a dead one or two. We then came across a half eaten mackerel and decided to tow it along for a while to see if you could attract anything but nothing much.
Ascended after 63mins to a waiting MV Selkie and I ascended right at the ladders.

Viz was a bit murky compared to recent trips but we could still see each other a good 6m or so apart.

I think Peter enjoyed it too, although some of the others on the boat didnt make it due to bouyancy issues and had been waiting for us for ....a wee while. They then decided to try for Cathedral since they didnt really get a dive, Peter and I were down to 30 and 75 bar respectively so decided not too bother and the tide was fairly ripping past resulting in one of the two buddy pairs not making cathedral at all even when dropped off right at it and being able to look down on the top of the rock from the boat!!

Went past Dunbar on the way home and the bridge is in, doesnt look like much else to do, but the "road" is still closed. Dunbar Harbour dive coming soon!!!

Tyes Tunnel Rocks!:D

Thanks Stewart. When conditions are right the tunnel is a great dive and not for the faint hearted or inexperienced!!
