the thin wire cages are more effective, the wire goes between the sharks teeth & pains its gums.
hmmm, or so they say.

the ultimate cage is made of a clear polycarbonate which is invisible in the water both to the diver & shark.
you can see how this would be more exciting when the shark makes it run at you
he-he all good fun im sure.

I did this in January.

I didn't really rate it, which was very strange as I had expected to love it. I think the problem was that the cage, even though I was inside it, diffused the impact of the experience. It was like looking through the bars at a zoo where, although you might be staring down the jaws of a grizzly bear or a tiger, the experience is dull because the bars separate you from the animal and / or its environment.

I also thought the experience was a bit disney. Aside from my wife and I, none of hte other people on the boat were divers and they were totally hyped up to an irritating level: loads of high fives and whooping every time a fish farted within a mile of the boat ...

I had that famous toothy face right in my own face. I reached through the bars and stroked the steely grey flank. And I managed to secrete not one drop of adrenalin.

Sorry if I'm dragging this thread down, dudes :D

Anyway, the universe returned to balance when we travelled up to KWZ Natal and dived with raggies - big, beautiful and very spooky - like shark ghosts .... And the reefs off Sodwana are among the best i've seen, teaming with life, including big reef sharks, mega-morays and rays.

It's so strange though, I wouldn't recommend the cage diving. Save your £50 and catch a flight to Durban!
