Gedan and I just had a fantastic dive with Chris and Mogwai - great to meet you guys and thanks for the guided tour:) There was virtually no swell and the vis was great, 8-10m in places. We followed Chris and Mogwai through the gulley stopping to look at a conger and then straight on to the archway. Very scenic dive with a tour of the Big and little Green Carrs on the way back in. Mogwai spotted a very large ocopus caught in a lobster pot.
Here are some of the pics

Not sure what this is - maybe a leopard spotted goby??

the octo
excellent report & stunning photos: thanks for sharing them :D
archway photo is fantastic and also thought it was very impressive the way that you focused on the octopus within the pot :)
I've never noticed a topknot although I'm sure that I'll have seen some (if you know what I mean) :o
it is a leopard spotted goby BTW: millions of them in the sea lochs
chris, did you go through the "anglerfish gully" on the way to CR?
Hi,
thanks for the dive last night folks. Another first for me last night in that i saw my first octopus in Scottish waters. Seem to keep coming across new stuff at St Abbs. What a difference a marine reserve makes in encouraging sealife. :)

Could'nt agree more, don't think i've ever seen so many lobster on the one dive.
Glad you guys enjoyed it, I had a good time and it was nice meeting you guys too. Good photos, The arch one is very good.
Charlie, we did do a search for the anglerfish and even headed to the ampitheatre on the way back too, but nothing.
Shame about the octopus, I was tempted to try and release it, but apart from sticking my knife into the pot(something I defo would not do!!) is there an easy way of dropping the bottom out of it and letting said octopus out?
Oh we also some a tompot blenny too :)
Hope you guys have a good night tonight, when we got there and started to get changed it was raining quite heavy, however once under the water the sun was shining through!
Shmeeg, hope you dont mind I had a nosey at the rest of your photos on photobucket, there are some nice ones you didnt post on here!

Not at all - I didn't want to clog up the server by posting too many. (I didn't know that you could access the album through the link, I'd better make sure there are no rude ones on my photobucket page!!)
here is the link to the rest

I would not be surprised if the octopus has escaped already - they are extremely good at getting their mushy bodies throught the smallest of gaps and smart enough to find the exit(well for a mollusc). He was probably just in there for a feed.
