Is it usual about this time of year that the dog fish all meet up?
always heard about this
but never dived there when its happening

no, it's earlier in the year.. about march/ april time.. i think.. though we'll need to keep an eye on it and see what effect the fish farm has on it!!
for future reference however.. it's the wee bit where you park in the wee car park next to the houses.. and walk down the road.. go in the water and turn left... there are normally loads of them in the spring..

Just dont go in to the water and turn right! Theres nothing there!!!!
I was once ruthlessly tricked in to going that way......
I was diving with my club at Cairnryan on Sunday 25/06/2006 (at the old pier)....we came across scores of Dogfish tangled up together - since they not all that friendly to one another for any other reason I can only assume this display was for procreation!
