Ordered a Pony and ND Clamp from Deep Blue tonight and plan on rigging it as such.

Pony 2nd Stage on necklace, 2nd stage is already rigged for left hand side as i used it when i had the twin 12's. BCD inflator from pony, Dry Suit from main cylinder

Octopus clipped on BCD Octo holder, if i have to share air then i would pass the 2nd stage that i was using and switch to my Pony to keep load on main 1st stage as per normal.

Any views ?

If you were sharing air at say 30M your pony wouldn't last long,i currently have 3 regs which is a PITA so i'm gonna get an air 2 and do away with the octopus, that way we can both share air from the main cylinder.

i wouldnt switch to the pony,
give them your main reg only if you have a long hose 1.5m+ otherwise, give them your octopus (which has a longer hose for this very reason)

i only ever dived a single DV on each when i used a pony.
the pony had a longer hose for them (or me) if they needed it, i was keeping the most air & controlling the situation by controlling my kit, ascent speed etc.
my 2p worth.

edit...

If you were sharing air at say 30M your pony wouldn't last long,
9 minutes of air at 30m if the breathe rate was 20 lpm.
as your ascending (not staying to finish the dive) it would last longer.
this is assuming its full to 232 bar.

Ok 9 mins of air at 20 lpm but i imagine that 20 lpm would double if not triple when the smelly stuff hits the fan  and would there be enough for a safety stop.

Okay all points noted. What about wearing the pony 2nd stage on my necklace and running my BCD from the pony (I don't use my BCD, apart from at the surface where i normally inflate it by mouth). Octopus for sharing until i get longer hose on then. Also if i had to share air then dive would be called and we would ascend straight away, so full pony would allow me to surface and do safety stop. But points noted so i would stick to main cylinder for me and pony as a backup.

i was intending on having my main reg from main tank and octopus from my pony. Are you guy's saying keep the octopus on the main also and add another reg for the pony, 3 regs total?

this subject has been done to the death last month.

If there is major concerns about bail out air then think about a twinset.

yes,
as that figure is based on staying at 4ATA for 9 minutes.

lets do the sums...
232 bar x 3 liters = 696 liters of air.
breathing at 20 lpm means it will be used in 34.8 minutes, but thats at the surface, so no good, but you need that for the starting calculation.
30m = 4ATA so
34.8 / 4ATA = 8.7 minutes of air at that depth.
assuming 10 mpm ascent (but i know you will go faster) getting to 20m in 1 minute, then 10m in 2 minutes.
so even basing the breathe rate on 30m (4ATA) for traveling to 10m this will knock 2 minutes from your 9 minutes of air.
so lets say your now at 2 ATA with 7 minutes of air, based on your 30m(4ATA) starting air.
as your under less pressure (2 ATA), you now have 14 minutes of air.
at 6m the pressure drops again to 1.6 ATA giving you somewhere around 18 minutes of gas depending on whats been used.

ohh.. so very true

You want to keep the air in your pony for getting home. Not inflating your BCD. Even if you only use it on the surface if you're away for the day how much air are you going to have left in your pony after 3 dives?

Stick a reg and a SPG on it and hope you never have to use it.

So plenty of air for bail out. I don't want to go back to a twin set so this will do me :D

Twin 7/300s. Go for it. All the best looking people are using them.

oh, ffs.

You really want as much air as possible, can you change your order?

be better changing it to an allu 7 going by the price of 3 liters x 300 bar.

I use 300bar 12l, but I am happy with the 232bar pony, all the issues with regard "good" fills and such, plus 200bar of 3l should be enough to get me from the 20-30m range I dive in, plus my buddy shouldnt be too far away from me!!
