Popped over to the East coast of Loch Fyne today. Not much of a plan as to where we were going, had a few thoughts.

We'd been threatening to dive at Lachlan Castle for months but didn't fancy walking across the bay. We did however learn that there is a road to it. Well sort of road, a fair bit of exhaust scraping (three set sets of dive gear and three divers, two of us not as slim as Stewart ;) ) and branch scraping. Got to the castle but with the tide out it didn't look as if we would get more than a few meters for quite a way out so decided against it. Had to reverse the car about a third of the way back to turn it. Eventfull at the least.

Got to Creagan Dubh and the layby was clear so we went for that. Midges where are an acceptable level as well (1 or 2 on the midge scale).

Headed out to the wall and followed it down to 25ish meters. Quite dark and the viz wasn't too great. Headed back up to 20-15m where it was a bit lighter. Lots of to see, Plumose Anenome, tube worms, hermit crabs, velvet crabs, edible crabs (one fecking huge one), long claw squad lobsters, sunstar starfish plus lot of other I don't ave a name for yet. But the highlight was a shoal of suprisingly brave Pollack.

All in all a nice dive. 58 mins in total. Very nice site as layby (space for 2 cars) is right next to the bay and the wall starts 5-10m from the shore.

I'll need to throw a guide together for it.

Hi - sounds like a great dive - we are supposed to be doing a boat dive out of eyemouth tomorrow but it looks like it might be blown out and we are looking for a backup. Can you post some details of how to find the site?

look anything like this (http://www.freewebs.com/scubaportal/ssac/dive%20site%20drawings/creagan%20dubh.pdf) ?

Hard to say. It could be that we are following the "rock" in the PDF, but this is a wall with ledges and cracks etc.

The only other guide I've seen is here (http://www.dive-firth-of-clyde.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/lephinmo.htm), altough I don't find the site map all that informative.

Directions (http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=197080&y=691320&z=5&sv=197080,691320&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf)

Thinking about it thoug we do descend/assend a dustance out from the "rock", if the three reefs where a wall it wouldn't be far off it.

And I wouldn't say there was space for 6 cars. Three at a push.

Anywho a nice site

I'm not sure. It looks similar but I'm sure this site is before Lephinmore Chapel.

I'll need to get a GPS fix on it the next time I'm there.

Yep, that is definately the site I know as Anchor Bay (others know it as Anchor Point) fast becoming a favourite with my new club Cupar BSAC. Great for training, sightseeing, bimbling and depth too ! (for those deep and dark types!) We've managed to get EDNA (the Iveco 35/10 LWB camper) and 4 cars in the "carpark!"

bottoms out around 28m depending on state of the tide.

The picture is definetly Anchor point(AKA Creagan Dubh)

Cant believe people are raving about it as a good site.

Sorry but its absolutely pish as are most sites this side of the loch.

Sorry but its absolutely pish as are most sites this side of the loch.
most of the locals & even divers had been complaining of that very issue a few years back.
but i hear that SEPA actually removed most of the 'pish' dives from the water around 2 years ago.
so i think its almost safe to return there now, there is even a rumor that fun is being had up there!

Well I like it :p

I'll show anyone what the fuss is about if you haven't been for a while.

Thanks but no thanks. I'll give the dubious pleasures of diving that side of the Loch a miss.

I had the misfortune to have dived it at the start of the year with a coupla mates from Fyne divers..

It was pish that day too :D

Get yerself to the Sound of Jura. Now thats diving :D
